Hi there,

Glad to read here that your Angio was normal. The rash can be from an Iodine allergy/sensitivity - they use Iodine as contrast material.  I am allergic/sensitive to Iodine.

You should try OTC Allergex or Celestimine tabs.  Hope it goes away soon.

I hope you've called the doctor.  This needs to go into your medical record.  If you're not in too terribly much discomfort that you can't wait until tomorrow to call, then I don't think you need to call on a Sunday, but the doctor needs to know.  If you have something that you routinely take for allergy symptoms, I would take that.

The headaches and rash are very likely side effects of Plavix. I assume you are not taking them now, and only took a high dosage before the procedure. The effects should wear off very soon.

Joshua, I have to say, you did have kind of a rough angiogram experience.  They're not all like that.  Regarding the rash, is it on a place where they shaved you?  Or is it where you had tape applied?  If it's neither of those things, in other words if its not from something that was directly done to the skin, then the only thing I can think of is some kind of drug allergy.

Well I certainly wouldn't ignore this. Headaches are very often preludes in patients before a stroke and taking it that you've just had a catheter going through your arteries, I would seek medical opinions. Not trying to scare you, but I would want to be safe rather than sorry.
The Nitro you had would have worn off easily by now, and you have also had a lot of anti coagulant meds for your angiogram. The standard here in the uk is around 600mg of Plavix. This could have weakened a clot. Never underestimate symptoms after a procedure. Five years ago a family member of mine ignored a headache he had on/off for 24 hours and suffered a stroke. They said if he had gone to the Doctor, it could have been prevented. A clot loosened in an artery in his brain and it started to bleed. They had to emergency stent it and fill the aneurysm with tiny metal coils. I have the philosophy to seek medical advice with such things. Of course, not every headache needs reporting, but it's just the timing after a procedure where they've been pushing a catheter through your arteries.

agree with sky, sounds to me like my migraines.  That said, it could also be a reaction to nitro meds that sometimes follow a heart procedure, they can cause bad headaches, especially if one sips a bit of wine with the pill.  I've been there and done that, frankly. Let us know.

It's not a normal reaction to an angiogram.  Possibly it has nothing to do with the angiogram.  It might be something more or less unrelated.  It kind of sounds like a migraine type of thing, on the face it.  It could even be some type of reaction to relief of stress.  We think of stress as being able to cause physical symptoms, and it certainly can, but sometimes just a sudden offset of stress can cause a reaction in the body.  I see that it's been 16 hours now since you posted the above, so I sincerely hope that the reaction has passed or that if it has not passed, you have called your doctor.

You are very fortunate, you are going to have the gold standard of procedures that has the capacity to save your life.  Like Ed, I've had many of them.  The drive to the hospital tomorrow carries a bigger risk of death than the procedure.  You will be completely relaxed going in for the procedure, be ready for a cold room, but usually they will give you warm blankets.
I hope you post the results of the procedure.  Keep us informed.

I've had about a dozen angiograms over the years and never experienced any problems. They are totally painless and the procedure is over before you know it.
