Aorta calcification is a buildup calcium deposits that narrows (stenosis) of aorta valve (normal dimensions is 2.0 - 3.7 cm). The buildup is gradual and progressive for most people as one ages and dependant on diet, genes, etc.
If stenosis is severe, the blood pumped into circulation is compromised, the reduction of blood output strains the heart to work harder. The stressed heart will enlarge and and contractions will be weaker, and eventually heart failure will ensue. The treatment for severe aorta valve insufficiency is repair or replacement of the valve.
The symptoms of severe aorta stenosis can be shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle fatigue with exertion. If there is heart failure, there can be pulmonary edema and peripheral edema as well.
