D-dimer test can indicate a suspected an aortic dissection if used within 24 hours, and it would be elevated at that time....It is useful as a rule out marker, but it can be elevated for other conditions such as acute chest disease, pulmonary clots, occluded coronary arteries..
So the susequent repair will not cause a high d-dimer. There is a window of 24 hours with d-dimer high for an acute aortic dissection.
