enlarged aortic root

I recently had an echocardiogram and my aortic root measured 4.5 cm. The cardiologist made no mention of this being abnormal and my EF% was around 65. It measured 4.0 cm for the last 10 years. I'm more concerned now because I have this very icy sensation in the left side of my chest and left shoulder most every day. I am  a female age 42. Is there another test I should be having instead of an echocardiogram?

A CT scan 64-slice angiogram would be an alternative but for someone your young age doctors may be against the procedure due radiation exposure.  The procedure includes assessment of the AV, aortic root, ascending, arch and decreasing aorta. Sensitivity is good with MRI and MRA if the software package is designed to image structures.  MRI generally has the highest sensitivity of the imaging modalities, with similar specificity to CT and TEE.
