I agree with Ed, but you, as a young person, have to find your way here.

Stress is a killer, and pointless stress is probably worse.  You mention that you know you have anxiety.  I assume this means you have seen a doc and been given this diagnosis?  Believe me, our own internal stressors are as bad as anything, but it is worth noting that many of us are genetically programmed to respond badly to just about anything.  There is no moral quality to this kind of problem; it's just the way we are--and the way lots of family members are, too--if you ask them.

In cases like this, yeah, go for the the SSRIs!  My shrink is an expert in biochemistry and knows very well what SSRIs have what kind of effect on blood pressure and other physical parameters.  Some of these meds have bad effects on BP and others do not.

My advice:  Interview a couple of knowledgeable shrinks and find one that is compatible.  Doing this can give you your life back and reduce harmful stress.

Second, even though you think you cannot incorporate exercise into your lifestyle right now, you certainly can!  Make a note to yourself to get up every hour and go up and down a couple of flights of stairs or just walk fast around the building.  It will only take a few minutes--hardly longer than a pit stop--and your heart and circulatory system will thank you for it.

Well let's put it this way. I had a job in a large computer department as an operator and within a year I was manager. I was suddenly responsible for over 100 users in each of 6 European Countries. Suddenly I was jetting around, sorting out problems. The stress was agonizing. The money was fantastic and I did the job for about 20 years. I spent many hours sitting, but after work I did lots of exercise, and I mean a lot. I studied martial arts and they put me through my paces three nights a week, even training bare foot in the snow during winter. I felt as fit as an athlete. I then couldn't take the stress any more and formed a company with my Brother who was a builder. The stress was lower but the work was tough. It was very soon after starting that job that my problems began. So, for me, it was obviously the stress. I am now 52 and if I could go back 30 years, I would be able to stand the computer job without the stress bothering me because I see things in a totally different way now. If I'm honest, I think the biggest part of stress is fear. We fear not being able to complete a task, we fear not being able to pay the bills. We fear so many things in life that we are constantly in fight or flight mode and don't even realise it. When my Wife passed away, I basically gave up on everything. I even stopped all my meds and had another heart attack. However, I've since been convinced by my children to fight this and carry on. Through that time of depression I learned to laugh at fear and be in charge of it. I know it sounds odd, but nothing scares me at all anymore, not even the thought of death. I believe this has made me stronger and even if money gets tight I just seem to laugh about it. If you look at all the problems we have have faced during our lives, did the world stand still? of course not. Did stressing about it make it any easier and affect the outcome? of course not. Yet, we got around those problems. We look back now and think "i needn't have worried at all". This is how I look at things now. If somethings going to happen, it will happen if I worry about it or not, so what's the point. Pacing up and down with high blood pressure saying "oh my God, oh my God" never resolves anything.

So you don't think its the sitting but the stress of the life the person goes through? I have bad anxietyiI don't know if thats the same thing or not but it scares me. They want me to be on SSRIs but u read thoughs meds have a increased risk of heart disease because the constrict veins and raise blood pressure. Did you have a stressful job? I've seen your posts a lot you help a lot of people. Was your job what you think caused it? Thanks for your help.

I don't think it's the 'sitting' but the amount of exercise you do. Even if you can't do much, something is better than nothing, even walking up a single flight of stairs. One thing though. If there are 2 people with desk jobs who do not exercise, one has a calm job the other a stressful job, I know which will get heart disease long before the other.
