high blood pressure, hypertension

I suffer from hypertension. I am very concerned and seek medical advice regarding this matter.
I am 24 years 7 months old, Asian origin-India, 5 ft 9 inches tall, very lean, Body weight 60-65 kilos - varies. I have a light frame.
Recently got my blood test done
My lipid profile >Total Cholesterol- 201 mg/dl
Fasting Sugar> 89 mg/dl
Now the main problem is that my blood pressure is constant in the range 142-145/90-92.  I got the reading over a period of 7 days. My blood pressure reading 2 years ago (during a regular check up) was 138-140/80. Now, what might have happened in these 2 years to cause a surge in diastolic pressure.
There is one more factor I would like to mention, I started weight lifting heavy twice a week (but without supplements or drugs)for the past 2-3 years. I am apprehensive that this might be the cause of the blood pressure, but I don't know
My moms side of family tend to suffer from hypertension, but from my dad's side there is no history of cardiovascular disease. I smoke very rarely - maybe one cigarette a week and drink not more than twice a month
Do i need to start taking blood pressure medications
Please Advise

Well PPOQ: Im no doctor but dealt with high bp for several years.  My first guess is the weight lifting is contributing to it.. I have found that walking every day lowers my bp.  Id  try some lifestyle changes first before starting a medicaiton if I were in your place.  If you start it.. chances are youll be taking it the rest of your life.. and you are very young.  I started taking it at 33 and am 69 now and still taking it.Diet is real important... be sure your not drinking any energy drinks.. they are full of caffine ... anything containing caffine, nicotine or alchol will increase the bp..ie coffee, beer, wine, cigarattes, chocolates... also greasy foods will increase it.Food that I have found that lower it are: apples, bananas, tuna fish, oatmeal, cheerios and so on.. mainly fruits , veggies, grains and fish ( not fried fish). Hope this helps..claytex

143/93 compared to 139/80   what surge in diastolic blood pressure?  You are high normal or pre-hypertensive.  Do you use a manual pump up or battery operated blood pressure cuff?  Do you sit for 10 minutes before taking it?   Before or after weight lifting?  Blood pressure varies from hour to hour and day to day.  For the moment take your blood pressure on days when you don't weight lift and see what pattern develops over the next month.  Don't rush to take medicine.
