Redux taken 90+days. Overweight ex-smoker diabetic no previous hbp or lung problems. Lawyer provided echo5500 gives these results: AO2.8 LA4.6 RV2.1 IVSD1.1 LVDD5.9 LVPW1.1 LVSD3.1 EF%79. RV normal,RA normal LV enlarged La enlarged LVwall motion normal? LA Supero-Inferior Systolic Dimension 5.7, MV regurg 34 RJA?LAA% TV regurg trace CVPpreload normal RVsystolic pressure 60mmhg
This was an echocardiogram on an HP5500 machine...
1.Aortic route measured 2.8 cm NORMAL
2. LA ( left atrium) measured 4.6 cm ABNORMAL
3. RV ( right ventrical) measured 2.1 cm NORMAL
4. IVS ( interventricualr septum) meausred 1.1 cm NORMAL
5.LVDD ( left ventricular dyastolic diameter 5.9 cm Borderline enlarged
6. LVSD ( left ventricular systolic diamter) 3.1 cm Normal
7. MV regurge 34 ...this means Mitral valve regurge...but not too clear on the terminology if the 34 was a pisa measurement or as suggested a 3 to 4 plus jet ...either way the regure is signifigant.....
8. RV systolic pressure 60mmhg , Right ventricular systolic pressure of 60mmhg ,is moderate pulmonary hypertension .....
Pulmonary hypertension was deffinately a finding of the adverse effects of Phen phen ....
There is no mention as to whether the mitral valves themselves appeared normal physiologically .......
Very interesting ....please email me if you see this ,i'd be interested in hearing the outcome of this .... also what area you live in ,if you can post it here that would be fine too!

jan-1,
I am having trouble deciphering the information in your question due to the run-on of the data provided. I think that everything looks fairly normal except for two key things:
"MV regurg 34", and
"RVsystolic pressure 60".
If "MVregurg 34" means that you have 3 to 4+ mitral regurgitation and the "RVsystolic pressure 60" means that your right ventricular systolic pressure is 60 mmHg, then you have significant leakage of your mitral valve.
This leakage may or may not be from the dexfenfluramine usage. The studies to date show discrepant results. Most cardiologists think that some increase in valvular regurgitation is seen in populations exposed to anorectic drugs, but the percent increase reported ranges from 0.7% to 30%.
You need to see a cardiologist who specializes in valvular heart disease, such as might be found at a major academic center. Be sure to have copies of any echos.
Good luck.
