tachycardia

i am a 24 yr old female. i am 5'6 130 lbs.
i have had svt since i was 16, it took 3 years and a major episode of it at 265 bpm before i was taken to the hospital and diagnosed.i was released w/ atenolol. 8 months after that i had an ablation because my quality of life was awful.
its been 5 years and out of nowhere i have been having these beats that feel like they are knocking the wind out of me. sometimes they are single ones and other times they come in groups. i put my hand on my chest when it was happening and it feels like there is a delay then a strong beat.  i can be doing anything when this happens sleeping, eating, exercising. it really bothers me. very uncomfortable.
so i went to dr he sent me to a cardiologist whom had me where the monitor for 24 hrs.
i only felt it happen 2 times when i had the monitor on. they did echo which he said was good. and that NOTHING of the sort showed up on the monitor as skipped beats. i asked him about pvc's or pac's he said there were NONE. that tHey saw couple times of my heartrate at 145 bpm no reason. so i am back on atenolol. but i am still feeling these beats and now also what feels like short bouts of

Hey there,

Man seriously, I have had the most odd heart beats or sensations ever. I have had things that feel like what your discribing (I could move and didn't have the leg stiffness) maybe you were very frightened during this episode? that resulted in your mental/physical block so to say? the mind is powerful, and it's possible to trick yourself into feeling things that really you ARE in control of. There was this one case I remember reading about, a 20 year old man lost his father to a heart attack, and after mourning etc. this young (previously healthy) man had to be rushed to the hospital with left arm paraylsis, left arm pain, left sided neck pain and crushing chest pain, he was sweating and short of breath. And do you know what his diagnosis was? Nothing, healthy. It was all psychological affects from his fathers dying from a myocardial infarction. So, I am just telling you this to provide you with a less frightening alternative explanation for your experience. If it continues to happen, check into the doc's office and talk to them about it. Best of luck!

I was just lying awake from 4:15am to 5:04am then suddenly felt like either a pause or rapid increase in heart function.  It lasted a few seconds them stopped.  It scared me but I remained calm.  Seemed like I was paralyzed from the effect while it was going on.  I felt my leg get stiff, I wanted to yell out to my husband but couldn't.  I know I was not dreaming I was wide awake.  Moments before this I was aware of my heart beat I could feel it in my back seemed like it was steady then bam that feeling happened.  Was that a tachycardia because I wasn't able to check my pulse when it happended only after and it was normal.

I think that she just posted in the comment area like we are because she  might of felt she ran out of room.  I do not think she took up 2 postings to the doctor.

Was it really necessary to post the same thing three times in a row? The CCF Docs don't always answer a question the same day you post it.

I fully recognize your fear and anxiety levels, but at the same time, you have abused the privilege of posting on this board.

Somebody else can advise you of the rules and limits in this forum.

short bouts of svt. that maybe last 6 sec then go back to normal.
what do i do?
it worries me that i feel these beats.  they  feel like skipped or delayed beats, but he says i dont have any?!
should i pursue this w/ him or see another dr? maybe an ep dr?
i am scared of having something else happen. as like the svt, it taking a major attack to happen to be diagnosed!

Hello,

what do i do?

The good news is that with a normal heart, there is virtually no risk of severe consequences (death, stroke) with a problem like this.  This is important to understand because a lot of people with symptoms like yours become consumed with fears that they may die.  you will not die from this.

The bad side is that there is often little that we can do stop stop PVCs or PACs.  I know they cause symptoms, but unless they are very frequent, it is very difficult to ablate.  If you have sustained tachycardia, that is usually very easy to ablate.

it worries me that i feel these beats. they feel like skipped or delayed beats, but he says i dont have any?!

I cannot say much about this.  If I don't have the holter to review, I cannot commment on whether you did or didn't have extra beats.  It is important to distinguish that your doctor is not saying that you don't feel something -- because clearly you do -- they are just saying that they do not see a heart beat that correlates with your symptoms.

should i pursue this w/ him or see another dr? maybe an ep dr?

It never hurts to see a second opinion.

i am scared of having something else happen. as like the svt, it taking a major attack to happen to be diagnosed!

Just make sure that your concerns are rational.  If your fear is that you may have another episode of SVT, that is reasonable, because you may have another SVT.  If your fear is that you are going to die, that is more difficult.  The data suggests that people with SVT do very well long term, including PVCs and PACs if you have a structurally normal heart.  The problem is that I can assure you that you will do well, but you have to believe it, and that is a difficult thing to convince someone that has already convinced themself that this is life threatening or dangerous.  I understand this an up hill fight, but it is paramount to understand that pvc/pacs are not dangerous in order for you to live with the PVCs/PACs.

I hope this answers your questions.  Good luck and thanks for posting.
