traditional angiogram question

Hi, I wanted to find out how much radiation is involved in a traditional angiogram. I've had multiple nuclear tests done in the last 10 years with two nuclear stress tests within the last three. I continue to get chest pain in heat and with exertion and am convinced that I should push my doctors for a traditional angio. Wanted to find out how much radiation dosage is involved in that.

What are the risks involved in getting that test? I'm a 40 year old female.

hello
When considering the advantages of the radio diagnostic procedures, the small risks should be omitted. You have mentioned that you had undergone 2 time for nuclear test.  Ideally one nuclear test will use about 5.85 mSv. Coronary angiogram requires a dose anywhere between  4.6  and 15 mSv.
You need to know that in US every person get 3 mSv of radiation from natural background in  an year..
Angiography is not a complicated procedure. It is a small invasive procedure where risks are minimum...
Go ahead to find out what is ther in you heart....
God bless ye

I went through this myself once.  I dont know the dose, but it is a fair amount because they image you in real time.

The procedure is not entirely risk free.  In the right hands, it is a reasonably safe procedure, and is surprisingly easy to get through.  Moreover, the benefit is usually finding out whether you need more work or not, something you no doubt need to do, and something which would normally easily justify the risks.  When I did it, the doctor played music and cracked jokes.  Didn't feel a thing. Bring a friend or family member for sure. Also, choose your doctor wisely.
