what is a trileaflet aortic valve

i have a dilated aortic root and ascending aorta at around 4.7 cm with a trileaflet aortic valve.
can someone tell me what the last bit means as not sure many thanks

hello thanks loads, i am on a beta blocker only 2.5mg but maybe uped, waiting for mri results which should be soon, i am having lots of pain under left breast and also by my left hip bone, i am very scared as its all a bit off shock.
i think the surgery is what is scaring me, when the cardiologist told me i did not ask any questions so sort of feel a bit lost...

Your marfan is probably the cause. The Doctors will inform you if they recommend monitoring or perhaps surgery in the future. They should be lowering your blood pressure with medication at this stage if it's high.
Your valve is trileaflet which means it has 3 flaps which open/close. This is normal and what most people have. The problem you have with dilation can be fixed. If the dilation gets much larger, probably around 5cm, I think they may suggest surgery. The aorta is the largest artery in your body which leaves the heart and branches off into all your other arteries.

hello, can you simplify it for me! i am really ne to this only found out 6 weeks ago, bit of history.. i am 38 and have hypermobilty and maybe marfans... never smoked.. not over weight..
and dont really understand what is happening to me xxx

The aortic valve is normally tricuspid (with three leaflets). Calcific aortic stenosis (three leaflets) and congenital bicuspid (two leaflets) aortic valve stenosis account for the overwhelming majority of aortic stenosis. Calcific aortic stenosis, however, affects approximately 2% to 3% of those older than 75 years.
