21 with ST Elevation

I am a healthy 21 year old female with no history of medical issues.  I began having severe chest pains, mostly under my left breast, about 3 months ago.  The spells were typically short and would go away after a few minutes.  Within the past three weeks the pain began to get worse and lasting for longer periods.  Sometimes the position I would lay in would affect the pain, so I thought maybe it was just muscular and I could wait it out.  I stopped working out and doing anything strenuous to see if it would clear up on its own.  14 days ago the pain started one afternoon and lasted all through the night, keeping me awake.  About 6am the next morning I decided to go to the ER.  I had an EKG, chest x-ray, blood work, and echo.  My EKG, which was performed twice, came back with ST elevation on two leads.  Everything else was normal.  Since everything else was normal the doctor diagnosed me with costochondritis and suggested I take Advil until it clears up.  He said if the pain didn't go away in a week (which it has not) then he recommended I follow up with a cardiologist.  I asked him about the EKG, but said it was normal for some skinny people to have ST elevation.  I am confused. Does this not indicate something is wrong?  I made an appointment with the cardiologist and meet with him in another week.  I should add, my father had his first heart attack at 28 and I did have high cholesterol about  a year ago when I had a normal check up.

Hi. To be clear, I am not a doctor. Be sure to follow your doctor's recommendation and see your cardio.

Hi. My understanding is that the significance of an ST elevation is very interdependent on wide ranging factors. In many many cases it is not significant of anything. I would follow through with the doctors recommendation mostly because it is probably the most rigourously correct medical recommendation. I would not be surprised to find out that your ST elevation is caused by your work outs, age, or sex. These things, and more, influence it.
