80+ skipped beats per day...help!

Over a week ago I started having skipped beats so I went to my dr who did a bunch of blood work (thyroid, metabolic, cbc, magnesium, b12, electrolytes, etc) and all came back normal.  He also had me do a 24 hr holter monitor. I just returned it today.  I had to keep a diary as well for the monitor. I had over 80 skipped beats in the 24 hr period.
I have an appt with a cardiologist on dec 30th.
I just am having alot of stress about this..I dont get it. How can your body just start doing this out of the blue.  There has to be a reason.  If its not my thyroid, potassium, etc, then what is it?  I am not having anxiety attacks , but this is now causing me some anxiety! Im 40, healthy, dont drink, smoke, no caffeine, organic healthy eater, etc.
What will the cardiologist be looking for.  I read its not dangerous.....it just seems dangerous, I literally feel my heart stop and then kick in..its a very eerie feeling. Also does anyone have any idea why I started with a couple a day and it has progressed to 80+ per day? Any experiences would be greatly appreciated as I am getting very nervous about this! And I want to just enjoy Christmas with my daughter, worry free!
Thanks for any advice, it is greatly appreciated
Kelly

Kelly...

OK, I thought that he already had the report. Your 80+ is from what you journaled as symptoms.

Hormones play a big tole in keeping our bodies and especially our heart in homeostasis (a happy state) If there is any increase or decrease of the MANY hormones in our body, than absolutely there could be electrical disturbances.

No more "Google" for you:) It is true that you will only focus your reading on things that are scary, lethal, or rare events. The worst thing anybody can do is surf the internet and try to self diagnose themselves based on symptoms. Stick with us, we won't scare you and we won't steer you wrong!

If I had to guess and this is only a guess...when you mention "forceful beat" this is common among PVC sufferers. Often it can be described as a senstion of feeling like your heart has stopped momentarily followed by a very hard thump.

Please do not worry...Dec 30th is just 12 days away, it will be here before you know it along with some answers (hopefully) :))

Hi Brooke,
Thanks for the reply. My dr did not say anything. He just tested my blood yesterday and gave the holter, which I returned this morning.  He said the monitor has to be sent to the place where they download it and send him a copy. He said he will then read the copy and forward it to the cardiologist who I will see Dec 30th.  He is just an internist, and didnt really offer me much info except he thought I might have a electrolyte issue. It turns out I dont, so I am just sitting here wondering and wondering. Its driving me nuts!  My husband asked if hormomes can play a role and I told hiim I dont know! I dont want to just google info as it just makes things worse! I thought I would try this message board...this is my first time, so again, thanks for the response.  I dont know if its pac or pvc, I just know I feel a forceful beat in my chest after my heart skips a beat.

Hi Kelly...

When something like this that seems to appear out of the blue, with no rhyme or reason, it is no wonder you may feel nervous. Have no fear...you have come to the right place to find the answers that may help you.

During your appt, did the Dr discuss the origin of these ectopic beats? Did he call them PAC's(Premature Atrial Contractions) or PVC's(Premature Ventricular Contractions)? 80 in 24hrs is relativley low. Even a low number of these, if they are new to you, can put your life into a tailspin.

The exact cause or causes are not always understood. Some Dr's believe the beat is caused by a trigger of specific origin, while other Dr's believe that the beat is random. Occasional ventricular ectopic beats (PVC's) occur in healthy people. If there is no evidence of heart disease, there is little or no danger to the individual.

I'm pretty sure that if your Dr felt that you were in any kind of danger you would have been seen sooner by the cardiologist...Try not to worry, there are plenty of members here who have similar worries, try reading some posts similar to yours.

Best of luck to you,,,,and we're always here if you need to chat:)
