Atenolol 100mg

Has anyone come off Atenaolol 100? Been on this for over a year. Prior to that was on Atenolol 50. Unfortunately as I get it from clinic, was never given the insert with side effects... and yet both my doctor and clinic are aware I have gained some 30kgs, have been treated for insomnia and depression. I am also constantly cold and my blood pressure is still high. I have taken a drastic step to move to Pressure Eeze (Herbal suppliment) with Magnesium and Potassium suppliments and am also now following a strict pressure friendly diet. I only started this today!!! how long with it take to gain a normal heart rate back?  Pressure remained the same on average over day (Been monitoring about every hour) - but heart rate leapt from a 67 avaerage to an 81 average... Also how long might it take to start to get rid of some of the side effects of Atenolol?

Hi all... Have good news... I am now taking Pressure Eeze Forte (the right one) with a quarter Atenalol and my pulse rate has normalised ... AND... after 2 days my blood pressure this morning was a cool 113/84... have not registered that kind of BP in years....Still following BP diet and apparently can  try to halve the quarter of Atenalol after a week, and if all goes well, in 2 weeks can be off Atenalol problem free to only herbal with no side effects... the herbal also goes down monthly depending on results... so hopefully by Christmas, will only be watching what I eat for the first time in 5 years... Sooo happy...

Hi there, thank you for comment. I was advised by the pharmacist that I could just stop. maybe she got it wrong? I am not going off strictly cold turkey.. I have substituted with herbal remedy.  I have 2 different herbologists assisting... But whilst they are knowledgable on the herb side, do not seem to have much of an incling on the chemical side... But I hear what you say... perhaps I will include a half tab for a week and a quarter for another week?

Thanks for the advice... The syptoms I discribed weight gain, insomnia etc... are some of the side effects... which is why I stopped... heart rate does go up over 100 at times... but I was warned that will happen, I was just wondering how long it would last.. have a super day

You are not supposed to stop taking a beta blocker cold turkey.  You can get yourself in big trouble with BP and heart rate.  You need to slowly reduce your dosage and wean off of it and you need to do this under medical supervision.

I don't know much about your meds because I don't take them myself but I believe I recall people saying it can take maybe a month to adjust??  I am sure you can find a list of side effects online.  At least that would give you an idea if your symptoms are all related to the med or something else.  As for your diet it is really good you are getting heart healthy.  I am sure with some time you will feel better and better.  Your heart rate though sounds actually quite perfect.  Unless you are an extreme athlete you are right smack dab in the center of normal.  Your heart rate will fluctuate but is not a concern unless you start getting extremely high heart rates well over 100 and have accompanying symptoms that impact your life.  So I would say keep doing what you are doing and with a little time you will see improvement.  Take care.
