BAD NIGHT couplets

Does anyone else get couplets and bigeminy? Every test I have had says very rare pacs, so I know these are pvcs. I can not believe how scary these things can be! If I try to feel my pulse, forget it. Its bad enough to feel all the rumbling in my chest, but then to take my pulse and feel pauses that seem way too long is just crazy. I tell myself I am not fainting or in pain so I must still be ok. Has anyone else had spells with a lot of couplets? I keep hoping that the extra long pause in my pulse does not mean its a couplet. I know on my 30 day event it showed some. When reading other posts on here, I dont see others talking about them. Please, anyone else with bad spells of them?

yup I get them, I think the only thing I haven't been found to have yet is AFib...but I've only had 1 holter and 1 other monitor in the ER on - can't remember what it was but it was 12 hours and they didn't send me the report so I have no clue what was in it. The ekg showed multifocal pvc's and nsvt runs but who the heck knows what all really went on.

During my 24 hr holter, I had very frequent complex ventricular ectopys with bigeminy & trigeminy with only 2 runs of NSVT, 2 couplets, 3 triplets, 2 atrial contractions yet in my treadmill test I had Frequent pvc's - 2 PVC couplets and 1 PVC triplet in recovery and that was only 4min 55 sec...I get them alot more with exertion and exercise.

Did you know they can do ablations for PVCs now if you have enough of them and they are annoying?  I had an ablation last December by Dr. Gregory Feld in San Diego.

My bad nights are when the PVCs are so plentiful, bi's, tri's, quad's etc, that the heart function is so comprimised, it does not pump enough blood, fast enough and you wake up, not being able to breath.  Even after tests and medication, thyy still have not gone away. The best I have been able to do is quiet them down with mexiletine and later sotalol. Very bad side effects from mexiletine, not as many with sotalol. I am fortunate that the PVCs do not cause heart pain, just a lot of heart flutter when transitioning from, massive PVCs to some sort of normal heart rythum. They will usually put you on a holter monitor to count various types of PVCs over a couple of days, run other tests to look for things that might be causing rythum problems, then treat with drugs or abulation or ???. You have lots to look forward to. Not much of it is very pleasant.  Good Luck.  garykkkk

I do feel the early beat, but never the THUD after.  Just the pause.  I also get that dropped feeling and it makes me cough.
I just got back from my doctor and described this feeling that we both seem to get and he said not to worry that it was just in the timing of the beats.  He told me that the reason he sees me once a year and does an echo and treadmill is so that he can with the upmost confidence tell me that these skip and pauses will not hurt me.
Hopefully his reassurance will last long enough for these things to settle down some.
Because every time they start up, it is like starting over the with anxiety over them.

Yes, it is CREEPY! When I was in bed I was feeling them but then when I wasnt even feeling them, I thought all was better and felt my pulse and and the long pause and panicked! I dont usually ever feel that quick beat thing everyone talks about or the thud, I just get flopping in my chest and pauses  followed by a normal beat, and I also get a feeling like a drop and my breath taken away.

I get some longer pauses as well when I'm having certain pvcs.  I don't know if they are couplets but the pause is really unnerving.  I don't feel faint either, but I do feel something.  I just can't really explain it.  When you don't feel a pulse, it just kind of feels like your whole body shuts down for a second.  Very very upsetting.
Hang in there

Hi,
You're not alone - I have had couplets, bigeminy and even trigeminy for many years...and I'm still alive to talk about it (haha) ;)  They are scary, but apparently not dangerous.  Try coughing hard when you feel them - sometimes that will "re-set" them.  I've been told to make sure I get enough magnesium and potassium as they help the heart rhythm too.  I think exercising, at least going to walks, helps mine too. Take care.
