Borderline tachycardia

Hello,
I am 27 years old, 5'2", 175 lbs.  I am recently diagnosed with hbp.  My doctor originally put me on Aldomet because I'm trying to get pregnant and after a week and a half I had elevated liver enzymes and fever so I went off that drug.  I have now been on Hydrochlorothiazide for about a week and it is controlling my bp very well.  However, I have noticed that my resting pulse has been steadily getting higher since I have been testing my bp at home with a monitor cuff.  Going back through all my readings I am usually around 75-85 bpm but since I got on the diuretic I am never lower than 90 and frequently 100-106.  This morning right after I woke up I had a resting pulse of 106.  Is this because I have less water in my body due to the diuretic?  How serious is this? I realize I am overweight but have already lost 20 lbs since the Aldomet issue.  I have been working out daily although I'm not in very good shape yet.  When I work out I am anywhere between 140-160 bpm.

You're right...Because you are thinking about it, results may be higher than usual. Just try to relax before you take it and maybe that can help you feel less anxious.

OK, the Synthroid should have no interaction with the HCTZ., but can alter the labs of thyroid function tests...so that is good that your levels were draw before the start of the med.

Well, keep us posted:)

I'm also taking 50 mg Synthroid for underactive thyroid.  I had a complete blood workup done last week prior to starting the HCTZ.  Everything was normal, including EKG.  I'm going to try tomorrow morning to take my heart rate before I even get out of bed.  I think though because its been on my mind that I'm getting apprehensive before testing which could be making it higher.

Hello...

Are you taking any other medication? There are many other medicines that can interact with hydrochlorothiazide and alter the way it's meant to work.

Among other symptoms, a fast or uneven HR should be reported to your Dr. He may adjust the dose or decide to change the medication all together. I noticed in your post that you are trying to get pregnant, while this medication is safe to take while you are pregnant...if you are planning to breastfeed, this drug can be passed through breast milk and cause harm to your baby. I just thought that this is something you might want to know.

I wish you the best of luck as you try to get pregnant!:)))

I do know that when you first wake up your heart speeds up to get your body going.  So 106 after waking is not really considered a resting rate.  I stay tachy alot too.  My cardio doctor found no reason to worry.
