I too have been on Bystolic for over a year. I used to have chest pains every couple of weeks and maybe once a year that was so painful I would go to the ER. Doctors could never find anything wrong-had every test you can think of. I was on medication for HBP. The cardiologist was pretty much at a loss. I went to my family Doctor who I have only been seeing about a year. He noticed that the few times I have seen him my heart rate was always >then 100BPM. He put me on 5mg of Bystolic once a day. My chest pains are history. My heart rate is down to 75-80 BPM. My BP is perfect. I have noticed a little leg pain now and again and a little trouble sleeping. But all in all I think this little pill had done the trick and kudos to my family Doctor!
I've been taking bystolic for 2 years and have done much better on it than I did on atenolol. It has done a better job of keeping PVCs down and slowing my heartrate. My BP on occassion does get a little low but that hasn't been a big deal. I had a low grade headache and a bit of nausea when I first started taking them but it went away after a couple of weeks.
After my mom had the stroke, her heart rate became so low, she had to get a pacemaker.
My mom took bystolic and then the 2nd day had a stroke.
I took this for tachycardia episodes,
but because my normal heartrate when not in tachycardia is low (57bpm at rest)
even a very tiny dose of bystolic, 1/8 of a 5mg pill, sends me into Bradycardia.
I suspect this med has less side-effects than other betablockers
because it is very cardioselective,
but this also means it is very powerfull stuff!!!
"since it's such a small dosage"
that's what the doctors told me too.
they have NO idea how sensitive some people are to this stuff.
I started taking bystolic about six weeks ago at 10mg, It`s doing a good job of keeping my BP down. I have not noticed any differences in my heart rythyms , Except my heart rate has gone up. I do not feel as bad on Bystolic as metoprolo, I seem to have more dizzyness on Bystolic. I do get some chest discomfort while on Bystolic that the metoprolo kept at bay.
I don't know how to post yet but to answer your ???
My wife's BP went so low the machine wouldn't measure it.
She was taking 5mg.
She has had TIA's since then but not as bad.
K52, if you don't mind me asking, how low did bystolic cause your bp to drop? mine is definitely lower than normal, but I don't think it's at an alarming place right now.
I also took Bystolic at the 2 and 1/2 mg level a few days and then quit slowly because my bp was too low on it and I felt dizzy.

My wife took Bystolic and had a stroke the next morning. They put her on Clot buster so she didn't take it for 4 days. She took it and had another stroke.
Be carefull
I also tried metoprolol which was eventually replaced by atenolol. Both dropped my blood pressure somewhat, but also lowered my resting heart rate down into the 40's during sleep. I asked my cardiologist about discontinuing the atenolol and he said to decrease the dose gradually. I have not taken any meds for the last week and my resting heart rate is now in the 60's or low 70's and my blood pressure has not changed that much. The irregular heart rhythms that I experience seem to be about the same with or without the meds. I would like to find something that could be taken as needed to alleviate irregularities and does not lower heart rate as much as most beta blockers.
Hi GranRon-
I just started taking bystolic about two weeks ago. While I'm on a very low dose (2.5mg/day), it still seems to be pretty effective in keeping me out of A-fib. I've been on metoprolol before, and had some awful side effects with that one, but the bystolic seems to tame those down quite a bit for me. I've only had two instances in which I could tell I was experiencing some slight side effects (dizziness, slight shortness of breath, pressure).
I've also been told by my GP that, if I find myself with a rapid heart rate or back in A-fib, I can take another 2.5mg dose right then, since it's such a small dosage.
