Nasonex does have a steroid in it, but isn't quite as bad (supposedly) because it's inhaled rather than a pill. But there are no longterm studies as to how it affects one's heart rhythm, etc. My ear/nose/throat doctor told me not to use antihistamines, allergy meds like Allegra or Zyrtec, or decongestants as they all can cause heart rhythm problems. He said to only use saline nasal spray (which didn't stop my ongoing allergy and sinus problems). Antibiotics don't work on the sinus thing because it's fungal, not bacterial. (I never knew that the majority of sinus problems are fungal and that's why antibiotics don't work for long in those cases.)
Anyway, I guess I'll need to keep using Nasonex for now. It's the only way I've found some relief. Maybe RNRita will have comments later on.
My cardiologist had told me to do a "trial & error" to see. I think Nasonex only has antihistamine in it, which is good. There are some with decongestant and I know that can mess things up. I'm doing allergy shots once I am feeling better.
I just started using Nasonex (steroid nasal spray), and it really helps my allergies and sinus headache, and eye-related sinus problems. But I also have PVCs and my heart pounds a lot (can feel it in my head, back, etc). I'm wondering whether Nasonex is safe to take long term if I have these heart issues. Doctor just shrugged his shoulders when I asked. Anyone know?
I've never had a problem with them in the past, but my PVCs and PACs recently started just 2.5 month ago. Thank you
Hi, Susan. I am not sure if it is the same with everyone, but I have had PVCs and PACs for decades. I was on the 6 day pack of steroids about 3 times in my life and they never had any effect on mine. In fact, I usually felt pretty darned good the first two days. A lot of people that I know that have taken steroids said they made them feel bad, but I am an opposite. Mostly every medication makes me feel bad. These? I felt GREAT! Good luck.
