Cancelled Ablation
Hello All, I cancelled my ablation appt due to anxiety. I can't eat, sleep or even think since scheduling this appt. My whole life has been evolved around the what if's and the ablation is all I could think of. I was worrying myself to death so I cancelled the appt. I watched a video about Ablation so I wouldn't have any surprises with the procedure but also read on this site about people who are worse off then when they started. I was also very petrified of the risk involving ablation. So far I haven't had any tachycardia but I'm trusting in God that he will order my heart beats. Thank you all for listening.
I just had my second ablation on Monday for afib to try to clean up some of the loose ends left over from the first one. I was much improved after the first one but still needed the drugs. This is the most complex ablation procedure and takes four hours or so. I declined the sedation but, even wide awake, there is not much to it. This is a very safe and effective procedure which can completely cure irregular heart rhythms of all sorts and free you from drugs. I understand your anxiety; you will know when you are ready to go ahead with the procedure.

Jules i am also due to have an ablation on the 14th September and i am also having anxiety about it, but i am also very excited about the thought of getting rid of this damn SVT. I do wish the Dr's didn't tell you the risks, but my EP Dr just told me risks are in everything and it's just like with any procedure. Also my friend's dad had an ablation done a few years ago and she has told me that it was the best thing he has done and that it has been very beneficial for him. He is also a surgeon. I just keep tring to read the positive stories on here, that always helps. Especially when you read Tom and Michelle's posts. You two are amazing btw! I know i will be nervous right up till the procedure, but i just keep trying to be positive and tell myself that a few hours of something grim is probably worth a lifetime of better heart health. Also if Tony Blair could get through it, then so can i. I'm in the UK btw.
If you are not ready then don't pressure yourself into it, you will know when you are ready for the procedure. I think i have just got to the point were after years of suffering with SVT and it;s symptoms i am ready to try and get rid of it. Fingers crossed. I actually think having wisdom teeth out seems scarier.haha. Anyway all the best and don't stress yourself out. Just have a good think about it and wait untill you are ready.

Hello Tom, Thank you so much for your reply. I wish I had the guts to continue it was scheduled for this Monday the 27th. It's funny cause now that I cancellled the appt I have been able to eat and I know I'll be sleeping like a baby tonight. I'm a nervous wreck as it is so I probably shouldn't have been on the internet. I'm glad your ablation was a success and I'm so thankful that you are still on Medhelp to help others like me who are big ol' chickens, lol. Anyhow I will let you know as soon as I have it done. Thank you Michelle for them kind words. It's people like you who encourage me that I can do it!! I probably should have just stayed off the internet instead I wanted to read and watch everything I could about ablation. I'm sure I'll have it done in the future and when I do, I will be sure to let you know that I worried for nothing at all and it was a total success. Thank you again Michelle :)
I am with Tom. When the time is right it will present itself. I commend you for following your gut but do keep in mind that the chance of death from this procedure is only maybe 1% if that. The complication rate is basically around 2%. You would be in more danger if you had an appendicitis as opposed to a cardiac ablation I think somewhere around 15% my EP said though I can't confirm those statistics. But no procedure is without risk so they do have to warn you but the odds don't get much better than that. That said, you do need to be sure before you proceed with any medical procedure so take your time and when and if the time is right for you at some point you will go through with it. Other than that just be mindful of any episodes that you have doing your best to halt them as soon as you can and your heart should be fine despite having an svt issue. Take care and stay in touch.
That's a good question because they never told me what it was for. both cardiologist and electrophysiologist didn't say...just fast heart rate. It was recorded on a holter monitor as 180bpm and skipped beats. I've had them for over 15yrs and taking meds for it. I may end up getting it in the future but after reading everyone's post on this site and others, I have to clear my head. Not to mention there are a ton of risks involved even death. uh no thank you..i'm just a big chicken. Hope yours goes well. Please keep me informed on the outcome.

There are many of us on here that have undergone successful ablations. If yours is run of the mill AVNRT or AVRT, the chances of success are in the upper 90 percent. Remember that this site is a place where people come if they have questions to problems. It's only natural that you will see folks here with problem ablations. What you don't see are the the majority of people who have had successful procedures and have moved on with their lives. People like Michelle, littlegreenman, myself and have stayed on here while others moved on to show folks like, yourself that these procedures are for the most part, successful. I remember telling my EP that he changed my life. I might be 61, but I still have a lot of living to do. Now I can do it without fear of an SVT event.
If you are a person for faith, look for signs that the time is right, and know that He helps those that help themselves.
