Chronic Sinus Tachychardia

My wife just saw a cardiologist today for high pulse rate and he diagnosed her with Chronic Sinus Tachycardia.  My wife has always had a high pulse even when she was young but now it runs 120-135 resting.  She has been prescribed beta blockers and that works quite well at 25mg every 6 hrs.  The cardiologist has told us that my wife will have to take the beta blockers for the rest of her life but there will be no need to see a cardiologist again.
This astounds me.  Is there anyone out there studying and treating Chronic Sinus Tachycardia?  My wife has other medical conditions but is 33 and this really is not what we wanted to hear. The cardiologist did an ultrasound and ekg is there anything else that could help us figure out what is going on?

I have the same thing and had the same experience with my cardiologist, although he did want me to at see him at least once a year.  He never did anything to find out the source of it  he just treated it with beta blockers.  I am only 34 and I was diagnosed 5-6 years ago.  Im trying to find other people with the same problema and find out more about what it is.  Im very confused about it all.  I am going to a new cardiologist soon and I would reccomend your wife doing the same.

Hello...

It sounds like a frustrating situation that your wife is in. It doesn't surprise me to hear that since the Echo didn't reveal anything that he offered a BB for symtoms and sent her on her way. That isn't appropriate in any way. He should be doing further investigation to find the source of the SInus Tach. It's like giving her a bandaid to cover up a hole. Sinus Tach is usually a symptom of some underlying problem. Dr's don't usually treat that, they investigate for a reason.

I suggest a 2nd opinion from another Cardiologist who is willing to give you answers and seek a resolution to this problem. Not a quick patch. A resting HR of 120-135 cannot be good for prolong period of time. It is also baffling that he that he prescribes the BB and says there is no need for her to continue under his care? That in of itself is ridiculous! If you have an electrical problem are you going to call an electrician or a plumber? Well, that's a no brainer...you're going to call the electrician.

Please seek another opinion for this. She has every right to seek appropriate medical care. What she recieved doesn't even come close!

I wish you both the best of luck as you search for appropriate treatment:)
