Went in for a stress test a week or so ago, and ask my cardiologist about it . . . he said there was no real range on resting heart rate variation.
Last night I took my pulse a few times while lying in bed. The first was 44bpm!!! That got my attention (I mean, I ain't no Lance Armstrong). So I took it sitting up and it was 58. I need to stop meditating before I go to bed ;)
Let us know what you find out......it's a great question and enquiring minds want to know.... : )
Thanks again. I do have the "Ask-a-nurse" option with my insurance, so I'll give them a call.
Thanks for the advice!
I'm not so sure that's all that unusual. The doctors don't seem concerned as long as our resting HR's aren't above 100 or below 60. Even then they have to look at the big picture. Next time you're in for a checkup, mention it to your doctor and see what he/she says. Or, maybe your local hospital or health insurance company has a program where you can talk with a nurse (no charge). I think Cleveland Clinic has something like that...."chat with a nurse". Our health insurance company has a similar program for members. That might be a great way to find out without having to go into the office.
Thanks for the reply!
Well just sitting here at my desk I took my heart rate at various times throughout the last few days. The highest was 82, the lowest was 60. I wasn't doing anything different - just sitting here. I actually took several "rates" just to make sure I was being consistent. It just seems a bit odd to me that doing nothing but sitting here my heart rate would vary so much.
Hi geux,
I've never heard where HR readings should be within 10bpm of one another. Doctors say that normal HR is 60-100bpm, with variations for activity and sleep/rest.
