Fast Heart Rate after eating

Hello,

I have a strange issue:

After eating a heavy meal (no need to be very heavy), my heart rate increases (this part is normal, I guess). But there's a huge difference between sitting and standing. When I'm standing, it goes much higher and the blood pressure gets lower, which is even more weird. My blood pressure and Heart rate are perfectly normal in any other situation (I've tested when exercising, and both get higher, as expected).

As an example, yesterday I had some heavy meal, and I measured BP and HR just 5 minutes after eating.

- When standing, I had 119 bpm and blood pressure 107 / 72
- After sitting for two minutes, I had 88 bpm and blood pressure 120 / 80

My normal resting heart rate is around 70 during the day and 60 at night.

Isn't it strange? What can cause this ?

P.S. I don't think I have POTS, it seems to be connected to digestion only.

Thank you

When eating your heart rate raise naturally to pump more blood into the gut and allow for easy digestion. When you stand up as well your heart rate increases to compensate for the extra effort needed to pump blood around the body. When sitting down our veins become quite dilated to let as much blood pass through easily, when you stand up the veins are then forced to constrict. Your blood pressure should drop naturally when standing then after a 1min or so return to normal. When you combine eating and standing at the same time your heart and circulatory system try to adjust for the unexpected change... meaning your heart rate will increase. Hope this helps

hello, yes thank you for the explanation. I think my digestion has a really big effect on my circulatory system. I usually feel "weird" after eating, but not in any other situation.   For example, I feel much better after exercising than after eating.

Once again, thank you
