Fluconazole causing arrhymthia?

After reviewing my recently placed ICD after an event my cardiologist suggested Fluconazole ( I take 600mg a day for chronic valley fever titer 1:16). How did he come to that conclusion and whats next for me. I've read in the forums that this arrythmia may be precipitated by excitement or episodic, whats up with that ?  Also, where would I find information resources that has a little more meat to it than the usual stuff..

Medications like fluconazole block potassium channels.  In susceptible people, this can prolong the QT interval on the EKG and lead to ventricular tachycardia called torsade de points.  There is a whole list of medications that can have similar effects:

This is a relatively rare condition. Defibrillator discharges usually have nothing to due with QT intervals or medications.  The arrhythmia's that defibrillators treat are usually related to scar in your heart from a previous heart attack or heart disease not related to heart attacks.

I hope this helps.

ICD may be not treating Long QT but pacemaker would.  My cardio told me as far as my pacemaker works, it cover everything in my heart.  My holter monitor showed my QTc 675 and they said "normal".  I got a pacemaker and it is nothing to be worry about.  I only on Glipizide 2.5mg (diabetes) twice a day while I had my holter on.
