Having SVT, PVC & Pauses

Hi I'm a 25 year old wife and a mom of a beautiful 18 month old ltitle girl. For a few months I have been feeling hard thumps in my chest and my heart racing and feeling short of breath several times a day, sometimes accompanied by dizziness. My mom has PVCs and takes medication. I went to my family doctor and he ran an EKG and it was normal but when he listened, he heard abnormal beats so he strapped on a 48 Holter monitor. The results came back with some PVCs, several runs of SVT, heart rates ranging from 129 to 42 and in a 24 hour period there were 6 times that my heart paused for 5-6 seconds. I asked him about medication and he said sometimes meds can help the SVT by slowing the heart but he was reluctant because SVT is usually an electrical problem and because of the low heart rates and the long pauses I'm having already he didn't want to make those worse. I am seeing a cardiologist on Tuesday. Just didn't know if anyone else has dealt with something similar and what treatment you received. Thanks in advance!

The rate of your svt isn't very high.  129 isn't in a danger range and can be caused by a type of svt that isn't as easy to treat as other svts.  I had an svt that was centered around the avnode and had rates in the 200s.  It was crazy manic fast and would start and stop in one beat.   It could be that your heart is a bit irritated and stressed from having the baby but will settle down with time.  Or that it is just speeding up in response to the long pauses.  Those pauses may be the culprit and you don't have true svt but unfortunately the main treatment for heart block is a pacemaker so I would suspect the doctor would try to see how well you tolerate things before going to that extreme.  But you need to see what the cardiologist has to say.   They have the most knowledge about what is going on with your heart.  Best of luck and keep us posted what they say.
