Help! Any support/info is needed badly! Scared!

29, caucasian male.
2 weeks ago now (14 days) I went to have a physical b/c I had been lightheaded on and off for the 2 weeks prior to the physical.
Had an abnormal EKG, which showed tachycardia.
The Dr. sent me to the ER.  At the ER, same EKG (tachycardia).  They also did a CT which was negative showing I was not having/did not have a heart attack.
Blood tests were  normal - normal thyroid.
Cholesterol is slightly elevated but that does not cause tachycardia.

I have had borderline/high blood pressure for 10 years now with no medication to treat it.  Average during hte 10 year period is probably 138/90.

Went to cardiologist - did 24 hr holter monitor and echocardiogram and another EKG.  EKG was same as ER and showed tachycardia.

According to doctor, echocardiogram and Holter monitor were "normal."  in 24 hours, heart rate went from 46 to 135 however i did literallly NOTHING in that time period except walk from the couch to the bed.

FRUSTRATED that the doctor wants to dismiss this as though there is nothing wrong.

he sent me back to my regular doctor who at first put me on metoprolol but I had a bit of chest pain with that drug as well as nightmares.  Now he has me on diltiazem but since I've been on that my  heart rate has gone back up (the metoprolol was keeping my heart rate down).

What do you all think I should do???  This is completely debilitating - I have not worked in 2 weeks.  I can't go for walks, can't hang out socially.  I feel "off" all the time.

Can someone please help?  I'm scared!

It might be a good idea to look for an electrophyscist cardiologist. They specialize in heart arrythmias, tachycardia, ect..
I had a complete workup with regular cardio- great guy but he did not find anything abnormal but tachycardia. I was referred to electroyphysicist cardio who knew immediately what he thought my problem was- SVT of heart. I did some more testing with a 30 day event monitor and it showed up.
Also I was on calcium channel blockers, for me they did not slow down the tachycardia ( no real side effects except fatigue).
I was also on toperol XL and had BAD nightmares and BAD continious headaches. I am now on atenolol, other than some tolerable side effects it has helped immensely.
Best wishes to you!

Sounds like the Metoprolol did the job with bad side effects, what does were you taking.  The Calcium Channel Blocker should help, but seems it doesn't take care of the high HR.  I take both Metoprolol and Diltiazem, 50 mg and 240 mg respectively.  They seem to work well together.  Maybe you can take a lower dose of Metoprolol along with the Diltiazem, perhaps at a higher dose.

Your post implies you nightmares are gone now that you are off of the BB... the CCB may also have that side effect.

What I am suggesting is talk with your doctor about taking a lower dose of BB along with your CCB, they act in different ways, so they do not compete, or conflict.

I have ordered some over-the-counter sleep aid to see if it will help reduce my trouble-mares.  I do have problems with dreaming, but I'd not classify them as nightmares.
