Rick, you're aware of the side effects with taking licorice supplemets?
I've suffered from extremely low blood pressure all my life which has caused weakness and dizzy spells. Very frustrating. I began taking licorice supplements. I'm male and weigh around 160 lbs. I take 3 supplements with every meal. When I am consistent with taking supplements I have NO more dizzy spells and much more energy. If I stop taking the supplements within 2 days I'll begin getting dizzy again. It works! I also monitored my BP every day. I started out at 90/46 and ended up around 111/73. People with high BP should not take licorice as it definitely raises BP!
I also suspected the hot water/shower connection. My irregular beats always seem to click in then -- good to know why.
You can't get sinus tachycardia (normal heart rhythm) ablated........
It's a very classic symptom to get a rapid heart rate in the shower when your blood pressure is low, caused by the combination of standing for a long time + dilated arteries and veins in the hot water.
If your heart rhythm in the shower is unpleasant, lower the water temperature. It helps.
Did your doctor tell you to take the supplements (potassium, magnesium, calcium)? If not, please know that those supplements are often used to lower blood pressure, which you probably don't need. There are medications available to increase blood pressure, but of course, doctors are often hesitating to prescribe them. If my blood pressure is too low and my heart race, I just drink a diet coke and a glass of water. It helps me.
Don't want to be simplistic, but staying hydrated helps me. Also, stop for a minute after standing before you start walking. How low is your bp? Pressure stockings (non prescription type knee-hi's) will help keep your bp up. Are you getting enough salt? Just a few things that have made a difference for me. I am on a beta blocker which is why my bp is low at times. Good luck. Keep us posted on how you're doing.
What is your resting blood pressure? One needs to take frequent readings of their blood pressure to get a true "average"... I do not mean several readings in succession, rather several readings over a period of hours and days.
Do you have symptoms of low oxygen delivery (due to low blood pressure), such as dizziness, shortness of breath. The fact that your HR races under light physical activity could be because of a poor physical condition. Do you do any regular exercise, even just walking for a mile or two several times a week.
Also I am 31 female, not heavy 5'6 148ponds, eat healthy almost all organic, granola, no real red meat, just chicken.
