I think the majority of us with SVT but structurally normal hearts woiuld tell you, "No". This is not what we feel when an event takes place. I'd feel a heaviness on my chest and a tightness, but did not experience shooting pain or pain radiating down the arm. You could have an underlying condition that might have been exaserbated by the hightened pulse rate. Perhaps it would be wise to see a cardiologist, and get a stress echocardiogram to rule out any possible blockages. You didn't say how old you are, but SVT in older people can be dangerous, and was the driving force behind me getting my lifelong SVT eliminated for good (I hope!).
I suffered my first SVT attack at work yest morning. Started with severe palps then collapsed(did not lose consciousness) and my heart rate went to 244 for about 3-4 mins. Started getting pain in left side of chest and stabbing pain down left arm. Afterward I was shattered tired and had left sided chest pain extending up left side of my neck. ECG normal thank god but I still have left chest ache today. Just wondering if this is normal. Was px inderal on an as needed basis. Is it normal to have this much discomfort after?
My bradycardia is somewhat random. There are no specific times when I get it. Same with svt. I usually only have a couple of svt events in a year. During svt, I don't get any other symptoms other than the rapid heart rate. The few times I have been to the hospital for svt, triage seemed surprised to see the svt because I look totally normal and relaxed. I have had chest pain but my ep didn't seem to care because I had no shortness of breath. But that is just me. You should speak to your doc about any pain.
Hi Chuparosa,
What times a day to you have bradycardia? How often do you have SVT's? Do you have chest pain?
Thanks,
MoDoLo
I have both svt and bradycardia. Brady is non symptomatic tho.
Hi ISW,
Thank you for your input... My concern is the pain is coming from my heart having to work to hard - especially during SVT and Bradycardia.
Has anyone else here had both SVT and Bradycardia?
Thanks,
MoDoLo
Hi Sian,
Thank you for your input. I completely agreeing with bracing for a possible SVT attack or chest pain. I am now hyper-conscious of every little pain or feeling. It's driving me nuts. LOL!!!
Take good care,
MoDoLo
Jerry,
Thank you for your input. I do have a few symptoms of angina. My pain is usually brought on by exertion. Lately, it has been happening at rest as well. It's not your "typical" angina pain. It feels more like a quick "shock" or shock with pressure in the center of my chest. I don't know how to explain it, but it's very scary.
I will hopefully get more answers this week. After looking through my reports, I am apparently dealing with both SVT and Bradycardia - with chest pain.
It depends on what is causing the chest pain.
Angina pain during SVT attacks can be a sign that your heart doesn't get enough blood during the events. It's not necessarily dangerous, but a sign that something needs treatment. SVT is, in fact, a great "stress test" for the heart.
SVT can also cause chest pain due to other causes, as Sian wrote. This is not dangerous.
I get chest pain with SVT, but not always. My doctor explained that it is referred pain. It's not the actual heart that is hurting, but the surrounding muscles are being worked too and they start to ache. Also, sometimes the heart can hit the chest wall when it's in SVT.
I had a bad attack and found out I had chostocondritis too. So that sometimes causes me pain. I get some pretty bad sudden chest pain sometimes, only lasts a second or two, but have had my heart really check out. It takes my breathe away sometimes, and has been narrowed down to the chostocondritis and general anxiety over SVT attacks.
When you're anxious, your subconsciously always bracing, waiting for something bad to happen. You're body is ready to attack so your muscles are tense.
Make sure you get it all checked by your cardiologist to be safe. Always best.
=)
Chest pain needs to be addressed with or without SVT. Do you have any other symptoms of heart problems: look up the list for angina (heart attack) to see if you have anything else on the list. Resist the "power of suggestion" when you read the list.
Have you discussed with your doctor?
Keep in mind chest pain can have many causes other than the heart. Think about any thing you could have done that might have put muscle strain on your chest muscles. Or any accidental blows to the chest... or stomach/esophagus indigestion.
Wishing you relief.
