Low-Normal blood pressure, fast heart rate and Arrythmias

I am a 43 year old hypopara patient.  I used HCTZ for 10 years to control my blood calcium.  Last year, I got one morning and my heart rate when up to 128.  My endo took me off HCTZ and my internal put me on Lopressor.  I contued having a high heart rate after HCTZ was out of my system.  This year, I was put back on HCTZ due to high urine calcium content but I could not tolerate the drug at all.  Even though I was taking Lopressor, I had several instances where my heart went crazy and the beat shot up to 128-146.  I was taken back off HCTZ and it is out my system but I am left with a worse heart rate in the sense that I am taking more drugs to keep my heart rate down.  I have a rapid heart rate, low-normal blood pressure and arrythmias.  I am currently taking Acebutuol but it is not working well for the rapid heart rate.  Yesterday, my heart rate shot up to 120 and my legs felt like jello, I could not breath well and I was sweating.  What are other possible drugs that might be better for my usuage.  The reason that I ask is my internal medical doctor is having a hard time since I have low blood pressure and I want some possiblities for him to consider.  Also I am showing signs of early kidney disease due to the hypoparathryoidism.  The GRF showed problems after I came off HCTZ.

Hello,

Please look into Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). It is a very unheard of nervous system disorder that prevents the body from being able to properly adjust to the pull of gravity. Therefore, symptoms arise, such as: rapid heart rate upon standing, low or high blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, sweating, headaches, shortness of breath, inability to exercise, digestion problems, etc. The symptoms are endless and vary person to person day to day.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
Brandi

When you say that you have a rapid heart rate, do you mean that your heart speeds up and beats rapidly for a short period of time, or that the high rate is sustained? In the case of the former, this is probably not dangerous, though it should certainly be addressed, possibly by talking to a cardiologist and adjusting your medication. In the case of the latter, it could be part of a bigger issue. Also, does your heart rate speed up suddenly, or gradually? What is your normal resting heart rate? Your high rates don't sound high enough to pose immediate danger to your heart in any case, but definitely, if they continue over a long period of time, it's a good idea to get professional help. Your heart rates may be due to your calcium medications, or they may not, and again, only a medical professional can tell you this.
