My husband was recently diagnosed with atrial fibrillation.....

The doctor put him on a blood thinner and sent him home, still in A-Fib.  Next was a sleep study. That proved he had sleep apnea. He will need a C-PAP machine.  But the cardiologist had talked about putting in a pacemaker.  Pacemaker for A-Fib? CPAP machine for sleep apnea? Or is it one or the other? What does one thing have to do with the other? Or is there no connection?

No, don't do the pacemaker.  It is absolutely the last resort and only if he had a major complication with an ablation procedure.  Get away quickly from this doctor as he is woefully incompetent.  Usually sleep apnea goes with weight issues as well so controlling both will be a first step towards curing the AF.

Just a follow.  You have a couple of places close by that will have better expertise to deal with your husband's AF.  Minneapolis Heart Institute and Mayo the latter being more well known and experienced with dealing with the most difficult cases.  Your husband's case is run of the mill unless he has other issues like diabetes or structural heart issues.
