Ok to exercise with high heart rate?

I'm a 20 year old female, and I've been told by a local doctor that I have an overactive thyroid. My at rest heart beat is around 125-140, I've been going in for regular blood pressure and pulse check ups. My boyfriend is awful scared and refuses to let me exercise until I can get on medication. I'm 5'2, around 140 pounds so a bit overweight, don't drink coffee or any caffeine before I get my pulse checked every few days first thing in the morning. Do I have to be overly cautious when exercising, or is there nothing to worry about?

Thanks a ton, I'll definitely talk to a doctor.

I wouldn't think anyone here could advise you on the safety of exercise with your elevated heart rate. That is something you really need to ask your doctor.

Ask when you get checked out next. Or try calling even.

I've been checked with both the electric thing they put on your index finger and also by hand by a good amount of nurses and doctors, and I'm going in two or three times weekly to get my pulse checked, and it's always been in the 120-140 range.

I've had a doctor admit to me that it's difficult to take my blood pressure with my high pulse, but I'm not really confident with the nurses' numbers at the clinic, I've had my BP checked by one of them turn out to be 120/70 and then ten minutes later one of the doctors come in to recheck it and they got closer to 110/35. I've been to a physical therapy doctor in order to get my physical done for my job, and they had 4 different people come in to confirm that my pulse was as high and my BP as low as it says.

I just want to know if it's safe to exercise or if I should be closely monitoring my heart rate while doing so.

You may be confused about your numbers.  BP 115/30????  Normal is 120/80 so 120/70 would be very good.  This also makes me wonder if your pulse rate is lower than you claim.

They just said it's a result of my thyroid and that it'll go back to around normal once I'm on medication. Up until recently my blood pressure has also been around 115/30 or so, but it recently jumped all the way up to around 120/70 and stayed there. They have admitted that its really difficult to take my blood pressure with my high pulse, though.

I've just recently moved  into this town, so I don't have a family doctor yet to go see, I've just been going to a local public clinic. It's been this way for more than a month, but before that I hadn't been to a doctor in over 5 years, so it could have been a very long time.

I have to go in for a few more tests, then wait for an appointment at a specialist before I can get medication.

If your resting heart rate is 125-140 you need to see a cardiologist asap.  What has your dr suggested?  Did they give you meds for the thyroid?  How long has your pulse been that elevated?
