PAC's

Hi,
I am a 29 year old male and do deal with stress and anxiety.  I have been dealing with the thump in your chest for years on and off. I finally went to a cardiologist and they did a stress echo on me and found the PAC's after I exercised. I only get these things during golf, cutting grass, exercise etc.. I recently started to get them during stressful situations. So I went back to the cardiologist and my family doctor and they put me on a Beta Blocker which really helps me calm down but I still get them during all the exercise activities that I mentioned above. I don’t want to do anything that I know causes these things but all the doctors keep telling me your fine stop worrying and live on.  I just don’t understand why they happen during exercise.  How do you make your body stop worrying when these happen and focus on something else? Do I need to seek further opinions from other doctors? I hate this and feel like a lazy bum because I don’t want to do anything to make these things come back.  I also use to Dip Tobacco a can every two days or so and I have stopped since two weeks ago.  Any Advice out there?

Sorry for the Delay well right now I really don’t get my heart rate up anymore because I am scared to exercise but when I did get them during my running it was always after the exercise during cool down.  Once they started than I would breath heavy and get stressed. Now though after worrying about these for the last couple years I think I have made them worse. I get them just a simple walk or cutting grass usually when it is hot. Yesterday I had to stand up and give a presentation at work and had them as well. So I think it is from Anxiety but I just can’t explain the exercise deal. If I don’t get hot or sweaty i don’t get them. I am going to see a psychologist tomorrow that can help me with anxiety.  I am so depressed and scared that I cant think straight. I need to get that in control first before I move forward.  I have gotten a little better with dealing with them but still don’t want to do anything to cause them.  I have been reading on something’s about how to overcome these from stress. Most people say you have to just keep running harder and don’t let them control you but it is really hard. I will let you know what the psychologist says.

I used to only get them occasionally during exercise, then they started freaking me out. Now I get them more often. The other day I was chugging along on the stationary bike, just relaxing, and then wham huge PAC, then beet beet, then another. It almost scared me i to falling off the biker. The guy next to me must of just heard me cough and then jump off the bike, and run away because he was looking at me weird. I got to more and was appropriately freaked. So yes i get them at peak exercise for the past year or so, maybe more bug I didn't cafe or notice to much before.

My mom and uncle both get these. Just to let you know I really think anxiety causes these. The night before I had a racing heart for a few minutes and was freaked and searching heart issues all day. I think my PAC's were some sort of release. Dont get me wrong I ado get them now when I'm not stressed, but who knows these things stress you so much.

They make you want to think you have more wrong with you than I think you really do. I will list  what I feel so you can co pare. I typically feel that my heart gets a bit weak for a second during exercise, then I feel a brief second of shortness of breath or breathing heavy, then I feel a flip flop, buzz type feeling then anxiety lime I want to run away from them. I typically get 2-4. I can stop calm myself and continue, and they typically stay away after that. What do you feel?

Sorry still learning how to post. Ya anyway I get these things a lot and like I said before right now the only way they go away is to sit down or just simply dont get hot and sweaty.  I am for sure stressed out about them and also trying to quit tobacco is hard as well. Im on 40mg of Nadol which is the Beta Blocker and it helps me with the anxeity and when I do have the PAC's its not as heavy of a contraction. To be honest I just don't understand why these are happening and wish there was some sort of procedure to get rid of them.  I am trying to do the things I love and just know that I am going to get them but my mind and body react in such a manner that it really scerws me up.  I just can't except that they are OK.  I hope that by trying to forget them that they just go away but right now they are not.  Are you on any medicine for yours at all?
Do you always get them when you excersise? Like I do. Thanks for the response it does make me feel better that someone else has this. My family has a history of this to but mine seem to be the worst.

Cindy! you just ruined all my fun :P  if I'm going to have to cut out all of that stuff for life then I may as well die early and happy LOL j/k j/k

I've read this so many times, but how does nicotine in tobacco products affect pvc's? I know I've read you're at higher risk for CAD and HBP etc but can't find any concrete research about nicotine and pvc's.  I read this thread and it sparked my memory to ask about it.

I'm trying to get my daughter to quit smoking :(  she's almost 24 and had pvc's for awhile and I'm trying to win the arguement  so I have to show her proof :P

The chew is definately not helping you my friend...some of the things that you can get pro active with in helping yourself are the rules of engagement here:

No caffeine or iced teas, no sodas with any color in them other than root beer, definately no red wine, limit your sugar intake, no energy drinks, stay away from drinks with electrolytes in them like gatorade type of products, stay hydrated because dehyration sets these off like crazy, try to get a full nite of sleep at nite and try to limit your stress levels...you do have some control over them but you kind of have to help yourself a little bit and not let them rule your life...good luck.....

Hi Kennspinn,

I'm going through the same thing right now. I'm 33 years old and fit, and have been active my entire life. My PAC's started during a really intense and stressful period of my life and they seem to stick around now. I get them in the day and they feel like a tiny flutter, and are not really bothersome.

What does bother me is during intense exercise, or even sometimes climbing up stairs I will get one. Actually I can get several during and cooldown with exercise.  During my stress test I got two which freaked me out quite bad. The guys on this site are amazing, and have great input and advice. In a structurally normal heart they are not dangerous, but they certainly freak me out every time.

One thing to consider is this, they do come with more stress and worry, I know this because if I am exercising and worried that they will come, they always come, which leads to anxiety and more PAC's. Take a look at my profile and I have this specific question, with some amazing responses that may calm you down a bit on a theory as to why this is happening.

Feel free to send me an email through this site if you have questions, I have been dealing with this now for a year, and it still freaks me out.
