PVI ablation tomorrow - Need a pep talk

I'm sorry to post this and bug everyone, but I'm going in tomorrow morning for my PVI ablation and I'm starting to get pretty anxious and nervous. I made the mistake of reading Topher7s post (what a nightmare for that poor guy!) but I was already nervous before that. It started when I had the MRI of my heart this morning.Too much time to think.

I need to hear from the people who have had the procedure and realized after it was over that it was no big deal. I know I'll have a sore back, I know my chest will hurt a little right after, I know that my groin will be bruised, and I know that I'll have some PVCs, afib, tachy, and other rhythms for the first 3 months while my heart is healing. But I'll be up and moving around and back to work in 3 or 4 days and functioning just fine. Right?? This whole process really isn't as frightening as it seems in my head. Right?? It's all going to be good.

I have a very healthy heart (other than afib) and I'm fit and healthy. My doctor has done hundreds and hundreds of these procedures and he is extremely qualified. He is confident that this will work for me.

Please put my mind at ease and tell me that your experience was much easier than you imagined before you went in. Thanks!!!

Shopping? Seriously? I'm laughing now. Okay, I feel even better now but I know my guy will insist on getting me home and resting in bed on Wednesday. Maybe I'll save my shopping for Thursday :-) Thanks so much TwinBee.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I doubt I'll be shopping the day after. My husband would probably kill me if I suggested we go shopping on the way home from the hospital :-) My EP suggested I take it easy for a week, but I hope to be working (at home) by the end of the week and working out again next week.

I'm really sorry there had to be a 1 in 20K Topher and that you drew the short straw! I'm going to try to relax, work out, and have a nice glass of wine with dinner and try to not get freaked out. Maybe two glasses of wine :-)

I keep telling myself that by this time tomorrow it will all be over and I'll be one day closer to being off the Flecainide and done with afib.

It took me 2 years to finally decide to have my a-fib ablation. After it was over I thought to myself  What was I thinking? What in the world was I so scared of?" I had no pain or bruising or bleeding in my groin. Like you said the only problem I had was some back pain and slight chest pain whenever I took a deep breath in. Both of those pains went away in a day or two. I also went out shopping the day I was released from the hospital. I felt great! My only regret was waiting the two years to have it done! Good luck tomorrow and I'm sure everything wil to great.

Hey SooZeeATL,

Sorry that my thread scared you. That wasn't my intention. But if it makes you feel any better my deal is about a 1 in 10000 or 20000 thing and I probably took the 1. :) The procedure itself is not supposed to go anything like that and there was obviously a misstep. Overall you should be confident and excited to get it done. They did well with my groin wounds too and besides being black and blue, I didn't have much pain there. Good luck and i know you will do well.

Topher

Dont worry about whats going to happend, it's not bad at all, I had it done in Aug and it was fine.. The most painful part was the IV that's it.. You groin may be a little sore for a few days, it's worth it.. When your done your going to feel silly as I did for scaring  yourself up about it.. I was shopping the next day..It's may take a week till the results kick in..
