Protonix question?

I was prescribed Protonix while I was in the hospital recently.
I was also prescribed Coumadin because my heart went into A Fib(fine now).Tests were negative.
I also take Norvasc, Inderal and a diuretic as well as a baby aspirin daily for a PFO and HBP, and migraines.
Does anyone know why the Protonix would be prescribed?
Thank you.

Protonix works great!  I have been on it for a couple of years along with a beta blocker.
No problems.  My doctor said I will probably be on it the rest of my life.

I was on Protonix for awhile for acid reflux, then was switched to Nexium, which I still take.  The Inderal, I think, is a beta blocker, which makes heartburn worse. So does aspirin. That's probably why you were given Protonix. I don't take a beta blocker nor do I use aspirin, Advil, or Aleve because they make reflux worse. I do take one other med that causes mild reflux, but I have to take that for the rest of my life. So, I take a low dose of Nexium.

Protonix is like nexium onlyolder.  It is an acid reducer (proton pump inhibitor).  I also take it for acid reflux.

Good, sounds like you are in good hands... maybe someone with similar experience will respond.

I take Coumadin (Warfarin) myself, suffer from permanent AFib, and have for the past 2.5 years.

I saw my cardiologist the day after.
The coumadin is in case the blood clots from having AFib and I will stay on that for 4-6 weeks.
My husband has had A Fib for years and he's always been on coumadin.
The Protonix was supposed to be for an acid stomach due to the pills I take and I was just wondering if anyone else was on it for the same reason.
Thanks.

Why were you in the hospital?  That may be a lead on what the Protonix is for... surely you should (have?) talked with your primary care doctor.  If not, I suggest you do and do so in the context of the other meds you are on... prescribed by?

We don't have you age, but if you are not a senior I'd consider Coumadin a rather aggressive treatment due to "lone" AFib.  The aspirin may be enough protection from the unlikely formation of blood clots.
