Question Abt Medications For PVCS

i have frequent pvs not as frequent as most of you but my main symptoms are i basically feel my heart pound all day and night im aware of it and occasional nsvt which is very scary to feel..im 23 m..just recently found out i have bile reflux gastritis..im getting an abdominal ultra sound this week to see a possible cause of this..im thinking this could be making my pvcs worse..but what im posting for is im on atenlol 50mg in the morning 50 at night and i dont really feel like it does much and sometimes dont like the way it makes me feel..

i was curious whats the available meds out there that are for treating pvcs specifically names not just the kinds of meds i know some beta and calcium channel blockers and maybe some other meds so can ya give mea list and if anyone has positive experience with a certain med please post

I have had my best luck with Flecainide for PVC`s and V-Tach.  I take 150 mg 2 x day and metropolol at 50 mgs 2 x day. It does the job but the price I pay is exercise heart rate is 65 bpm, I have limited energy an all over blaw feeling.

I have tried many other meds Beta pace, Verapamil, quinidine I do not remember all but I usually broke through them in five years.

Everyone is different what works for one may not work for another, Same thing with side effects.

I agree with mariop these drugs can be dangerous my doctors keep a close eye on me. Heart failure can be hard on your organs also.

Good luck with finding what works for you it took me about ten years.

I think you might be asking the wrong question.  Betablockers do not stop PVCs.  They just do not make you feel them as badly.  To stop PVCs you have to use antiarrhythmic drugs, and there are like 20 or 30 different drugs.  But after a trying a few most doctors give up and suggest ablations.

Some drugs to consider:  rythmol, quinidine, verapamil, amiodarone.

Anti-arrhythmic drugs are highly toxic and can screw up other organs.  They have to be closely watched by your doctor.

I am currently taking 25mg of Metoprolol 1x per day. It worked great at first. My PVCs (5,000+ per day) were greatly reduced. After a few weeks, they were back to 5,000+ per day. The only difference is that I couldn't feel them as much. That has since worn off too. I stopped taking the Metoprolol and am just living with them.

iamloco724-I was taking Flecainide before my ablation and it worked wonders for PVC's. I had been on Toprol which did not help, Nadolal which made things worse and then nothing for a while before the Flecainide. My doctor did not prescribe it solely to stop the pvc's. I had other issues as well, but I was having over 5000 a day and then NONE on the Flecainide that I could feel. However, it is a very strong drug and not to be taken lightly. I did a lot of research on it but for me it worked great for PVC's.

I take 50 mg of Toprol XL but I don't think that it really helps suppress my PVC's v much at all. Who knows tho? Maybe without the meds, I would be in bigiminy all the time. I get so frustrated b/c I have days where the PVC's are so numerous and I wonder if I should wean myself from the drug, or try another kind of Beta Blocker or what? My cardiologists have no answers at all and just tell me that the arrhythmias are benign. I get v anxious tho when I get clusters of the PVC's that go on for hours. I will be interested in reading posts by others here to see what they are taking and if they have fewer palps after taking meds.
