Random Palpitations, very worrying... otherwise healthy!

I am a 29 year old male. I have been getting palpitations for just over 15 months now.
I mainly get them when i am either stressed or have been drinking the night before. When i am busy working i will notice a "hard" beat. This can happen every say 5 to 10 seconds. Then i will be fine again for a few monutes then "bang" another hard beat.
This can be very uncomfortable and leads to me panicking and then the palps get worse. There has been days where these will happen all day. Sometimes i might get an hour without any and then a full hour of getting them every few seconds/minutes. Its very random and i do not have a notion as to what is causing them.
The only thing i can think of is that i had to bring myself to the hospital before because my heart rate was about 160bpm. this was due to me drinking exessively and some idiot decided to spike me with some "Legal Highs" this legal high was apparently some sort of cocaine substitute. I have never done any drugs of any sort before and need answers as to why i could be suffering like this still to this day. PLEASE HELP, i am getting increasingly worried.
Also when i was in the hospital they gave me valium 1st, then they noticed that my heart rate did not reduce so they gave me a beta blocker. my heart rate went right down to 90bpm (still high for me) but i noticed some heavy palpitations before i was sent home with some sleeping tablets. I had some really hard palps for days after the incident but now i get them randomly or with the day after drinking or when stressed but sometimes completely out of the blue. Would love to har peoples feedback or if something sililar has happened?

Thank you guys for all your comments. I got so sick of them i did extensive research to what i can do to hopefully eradicate them. Its seems that there is no cure but there are things out there that will drastically reduce them. Please see following points:

Stress: Try to reduce this as much as possible. It may not be totally stopped but you can do things to help.
Anxiety: As above
Caffeine: Definately slow down your intake
Alchohol: As above
Sugar: As above

Now supplements you can take to help your heart work better:
1. Magnesium: This have been a miracle to me. I can do anything i want when i take one in the morning. I dont know if this supplement will help for long but for the last 2 weeks it has been amazing.
2. Coq10: Yuo can get this from any health store. Its known as the heart supplement. Not sure if it helps with palpitations but it is known to help heart cells sta healthy.

Please, if anyone has palpitations, take the above advice. Taking magnesium WILL REDUCE THE PALPITATIONS, TRUST ME,. If they dont then please let me know. I feel like im my old self when im on them. And i can even stay busy in work wothout panicking and getting terrible palpitations.

Further advice: Go natural rather than medication. Manesium and coq10 has helped me drastically.

For you, drinking is a major trigger.  I would avoid alcohol all together, get it out of your system.  Give it a few weeks, then if you want, slowly add it in, a half a drink to one drink at a time and see how you do.  If you get palpitations, you know what caused them.  If you do drink, have a large glass of water with every drink.  This will help with dehydration, which drinking can cause and in turn that is what is triggering these wonky beats.  As a young person, you must watch your drinking glass when socializing.  Be careful where you put it down.  That is awful that someone spiked your glass with that "poison".  Does your doctor know this happened to you?  Cocaine is known to cause heart arrhythmias.  You need to take good care of yourself and protect yourself from idiots like that.  Treat yourself like you are a loving parent.  Watch your drinking and try to rest and relax.  Everyone on this board has heart arrhythmia problems, most of them are benign.  Yours are too probably.  That's why you have to take good care of yourself to avoid the triggers.  This is just good living anyways.  Try not to worry, keep in close contact with your doctor and read the boards and write when you need to.

I too suffer from symptomatic palpitations.  My first advice to you would be not to drink alcohol at all.  This triggers the palpitations and could be contributing to the frequency of your symptoms.  Also, cut out caffeine and sugar from your diet.  Next, I would recommend that you see your dr for a holter monitor which will tell him/her what type of arrhythmia (if any) you might be having.  From that point, your dr will determine what steps need to be taken.  I've been told not to worry that palpitations as these are often benign in us young folks.  Easier said than done, I know, but try.  Prayer usually helps me!

If you scan the forum you will find that you are not alone...random episodic palpitations with no heart disease plagues many of us - dehydration and anxiety seem to be triggers for you so you can easily avoid those....some of us, including me,  have no idea what provokes them.  They have a life of their own.  As long as they are benign they will not kill you even though they feel as if they will.
