Tachycardia and Hypertension

I am a 21 year old male that has been experiencing a fast heart rate and high blood pressure. It sometimes gets up to 140/80 then other times its at 125/80. My heart rate usually when resting is 90-110bpm off my medicine. When I wake up from sleeping it is usually 70-80 bpm.  I am 5'10 and 155lbs. I was very active several years ago and raced motocross for years. I went to my family doctor and she check my thyroid. Those results came back good. So I asked her to check my epinephrine levels because it almost seems like i have too much adrenaline. Those results cam back slightly high so she referred me to an endocrinologist. She also put me on 50mg of metoprolol (beta blocker). This medicine worked really good in beginning but several months later I am starting to have high blood pressure and high heart rate. My endocrinologist checked my thyroid because he said it felt slightly enlarged but the altrasound and blood work came back good. Is it possible to have a pheochromocytoma with slightly high epinephrine shown in blood work? I am also wondering what congenital heart defects it could be? I have always had a slightly higher heart rate. Or is it possible to have plain and simple high blood pressure at my age and weight? Can high blood pressure cause a fast heart rate? My doctors I noticed did not check my lipid profile.
      Thanks,
         Ryan

Hi,

Pheo should manifest with blood pressure far above 140/80 (which by the way is a normal blood pressure especially in the setting of some anxiety and possibly negative expectations when you're measuring it).

I really HATE blood pressure measuring because I fear that it's high, and on first measuring, it's always high. I get heart rates of 100-150 (though my resting heart rate is 50), ice cold hands and fingers, palpitations, almost the feeling of panic. And my BP answers with results up to 160/90. If I, towards all odds, manage to stay calm when I measure it, it's usually 110/60 or lower.

BP and heart rate aren't especially related but if your heart rate is high, there is usually a reason for that (elevated stress hormones) which also increases the blood pressure.

I have an anxiety disorder and i had high blood pressure with tachycardia, got all tests done, including echocardiogram...theres almost no way you have high blood pressure at your age considering you're not obese.
