And as far as I know, inhaled steroids pretty much stay in the lungs (and throat and mouth which is why you rinse your mouth). I don't think much, if any, goes systemic like taking prednisone.

As ireneo says, the salmeterol component of your Advair is probably what's giving you the heart-pounding/anxiety combo.  As you have noted, the immediate effect of the bronchodilator, though unpleasant, is not long-lasting.  If it's too disturbing, talk to your doc about bronchodilators with fewer cardiac effects.

The fluticasone component of Advair is a steroid, and steroids, since they affect cellular machinery, do NOT work instantly.  My husband is a professor of physiology, and he tells his students that it's a matter of hours to days to get the steroid effect which calms the irritated bronchi.  If you're basically healthy, the inhaled steroids should cause you no problem unless your asthma is so severe that you require steroids daily and frequently over a period of years. This really is true---in general--in spite of the fear people have of 'evil' steroids.

Flovent appears to be a steroid only. They don't work quickly like albuterol. They're for long term use and can cause some annoying problems like thrush (candidiasis). But they come with instructions on how to use them so you can avoid that. That's what I meant when I said my asthma gets out of control (the albuterol isn't clearing it up), then I use the steroid inhaler for a few weeks. No fun but it eventually gets my lungs back to normal.

I have asthma and when I use the albuterol, it will jazz up my heart for about 10 minutes. It has an adrenergic effect (like adrenalin). When my asthma goes out of control and I have to use the steroid, beclomethasone, it doesn't affect my heart at all.

But Advair has both a steroid and a bronchodilator. Perhaps it's the salmeterol that's bothering you. I agree with Cindy - see if you can get a different med to treat the lung inflammation without the jazzy side effect.

Yep i do aylish...i got bronchitis and the doc first put me on abuterol and it knocked my heart for a loop and then he put me on advair and it did the same thing so we just stopped it....they are obviously loaded w. steroids and we all know how great that is for all of us....i could call the doc and ask him/her if there is anything out there on the market that they can prescribe to you to keep your bronchials open w. no side effects of the adrenaline rushes....you have to weigh out the benefits and what is more acute and has to be dealt with and not getting enough air to me take priority over an  occasional fast heart however you want to make sure that the doc has okayed you to take an aspirin if you are going thru this to ward off the threat of clotting....good luck...in know i after getting the okay from the doc threw my inhalers away....just don't do it until the doc tells you to or gives you something else in its place.....my situ was different...no asthma just bronchitis....all of the symtoms you described are classic with advair.....
