did they mention something about a possible gall stone being passed? They can't always see those... and that can cause irritation to the pancreas. Often the regular blood work ups from an ED would appear normal unless the doc checked a few tests specific for pancreas (I think it is the lipase and amilase?) I was hospitalized one time for severe pancratits and that is the same symptoms I had when I went into the ED. Maybe you had a milder form of that? Your doc may bring that up too...?
When you see the doctor you need to have him check your cardiac enzymes. Not sure how long they stay elevated after a heart attack. I am not trying to alarm you with this story but in 2009 my husband had the identical symptoms..pain was under his armpit and in his shoulder. When he got to ER, his EKG , xrays, blood work totally normal. Thank god, the ER doctor followed his gut, told Jim it was probably not his heart but he was going to admit him for observation overnight and he could go home in the morning. He was admitted and they did serial enzyme checks every 2 hours. On the second check his enzymes were way elevated. This was about 6 or 7 hours after the heart attack. He had substantial blockages and had to have bypass surgery. Please follow up on this. Just because your cardiac enzymes were ok in the ER it does not mean you didn't have a heart attack.
i have a dr's appt. monday at 2:00 to have test done...thank you for your information...heart diseases runs in my family...my grandmother,my father, all of his brothers died of heart attack or heart failure...there is also diabeties in my family history...not going to worry about that now but i do have low blood pressure it went down to 105/58..had it took today 100/60 i am on depression medicine that might be why....
If your symptoms are still persisting then I would still follow up with your primary care doctor. ERs really just check to make sure you aren't dieing. They are mostly for emergencies but your GP will investigate to find the source of your issue and make a plan to resolve or manage what is going on. But if your EKG was clean it is likely you did not have a heart attack but that doesn't mean there isn't some other issue. Hope you feel better soon.
he said that my ekg and blood work was good and i had low blood pressure that it must be a ulcer...but this pain was totally different than when i had a ulcer in 2010,...
Did the ER physician give you any explanations of your tests? Just FYI, the blood work (specifically cardiac enzymes) doctors check now for heart attacks is able to detect damage to your heart anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks after damage has occurred. Ekgs can tell if any damage is occurring at the moment the test is performed.
If your ER physician gave you discharge instructions, make sure you follow them and if you are still not feeling better, you can always use your primary physician for more information or the ER again if need be. It sounds like you're worried enough to post so at least put your mind at rest and call your primary. That's what our docs are for... To be there when we need them.
Take good care.
If I'm reading this correctly, you just had this attack of pain, vomiting, etc. and went to ER. They checked you and didn't find any heart involvement. If you have a heart attack there are changes in blood values that will show up. It's pretty hard to miss it when they deliberately test for it.
Pain from GERD or ulcers can feel like a heart attack. If it feels different this time round, it may be because the ulcer is in a different location. You may want to follow up with your primary care physician and explain what happened.
