Did the ablation stop the afib and fludder?
In 2004 I was diagnoised with a-fib then in 2006 I developed a-flutter to go along with the a-fib. There were times when I had a-fib & flutter together (its called a 1 to 1 conduction) and my heart rate would go well over 300. I tried many different meds that all eventually failed and I also take coumadin. I decided to have an ablation in January 07 for both the a-fib and flutter.
I have been diagnosed by a cardiologist (that's pretty official) with both AFib and AFlutter, but never at the same time, to my knowledge. My normal problem is AFib, and I think I am not experiencing any flutter, nor have I for some several months.
As far as the drug flecainide, it is used widely and is understood to be safe. Still, if you are having problems with AFib I recommend you also be on an anticoagulant, coumadin or warfarin. Aspirin also helps, but is not a replacement for a prescription anticoagulant. The drug is not expensive, more than aspirin, but not a lot more. Some people have a lot of problems with anticoagulants, I don't have problems.
Sorry--computer clocked and I didn't think the first one posted!!!
Hi gynine,
I also have been diagnosed with atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation. I was on flecanaide since Sept--but that didn't seem to work--I had 3 'episodes' since that time with very rapid HR (240) for extended period of time, etc.. I had an ablation a few weeks ago and now am on Rhythmol. Were you just recently diagnosed? I think sometimes it takes a while to see what works since each case can be so different.
