heart palpitations from overexertion?

I am trying to figure out the source of my heart palpitations.  For the past 2 months I have had a series of illnesses, from an ear infection and eventually  bronchitis, where I took a variety of medications at different times including antibiotics and tylenol with codeine for a severely swollen throat.  Throughout this time I was also trying to train for a half marathon (which I am not doing anymore).  Last week I had taken some time off, and went back into my usual exercise routine (nothing too drastic) because I thought I was in the final stages and was finally done.  Well 3 days into that, my cough came back again along with heart palpitations after taking a single puff of an albuterol inhaler, this started suddenly a week ago.  my BP and heart rate are all normal, same with EKG, and the rhythm itself is normal.  It just feels like my heart is about to jump out of my chest, accompanied by occasional slight burning sensation in the chest.  I assumed since I had been training long before any of this happened, that my body would not have been all that shocked by cardiovascular activity.  My diet is fairly healthy, lots of fruits and veggies, no alcohol or caffeine, I am just trying to figure out if this is normal and I just need some more time off (difficult as that is to deal with).  my stress levels are about normal with the usual job stuff but nothing all that drastic with the exception of being bummed out that I am dropping out of this weekend's race.  These palpitations are even happening during yoga and at times when I actually feel very relaxed.  It is very uncomfortable and I am desperate to know why this is happening and if its reversible.

Hi,

Thanks!

I've had some bad arrhythmia problems after overexertion, profuse perspiration, and drinking too much water. I got all the symptoms of SSS that lasted several days. My cardio doc says drinking too much water will not cause SSS symptoms, but about 4 times I overexerted, perspired profusely, and drank copious amounts of water. Each time it resulted in SSS symptoms including bigeminy and bradycardia. My doc is the expert, but nevertheless, you couldn't pay me to overexert again!

Went to the doctor and found out its PVC. The thing is, I've been very active my entire life, and these started after partaking in exercise that would normally be considered pretty moderate.  If anything running decreases my stress levels.

Well, its a known fact that stress hormones cause heart arrhythmia's to act up.  Stress hormones can be produced by marathon training.  There you have it...

Palpitations are definitely tough to understand.  I am in the process of trying to figure out why mine have gotten so frequent.  I have had almost every heart test and blood test, so I am thinking anxiety (even though I think I am good) maybe the cause. I am going to an electrophysiologist which is a specialized cardiologist.  I will post when I understand more.  Good luck.  I am happy I found this site with folks like me.
