lying down

I am experiencing extra heartbeats and fatigue while sleeping. I have had this symptom before, but it seems to be getting worse.  I also have had periods of atrial fib, but these symptoms are different.  I have been waking up unrested and slightly congested in the chest area.  I also wake up in the early morning with my heart adding extra beats.  It is worse on my levft side.

I have had an extra beat for some time it lasts for days and months never goes away totaly, feels  like some one hits me in the chest and neck some times I can even feel the blood pumping through my veins, heck I can even feel it when I am standing but I know this, the more I focus on it the more and harder it happens some times it feels like its related to eating. The best thing to do is STOP FOCASING ON IT. Think of something else as hard as it may sound just do it, find some one to love, get focused on any thig else, stay away from people that make you feel bad about yourself, you know that it goes away when you focus on something you like the way you like it. dont worry about problems that wont kill you , and this will not kill you! It wont. Just live life and focus on the good things, you deserve it. Please excuse my spelling. PS rember focus on somthing good, fun, love, sex, all that is good you can do it.

Well I must be an exception to the rule, when I lay on my left side the sensation feeling my heartbeat almost diminishes completely, in fact I sleep on my left side most of the time to alleviate the heart awareness issue. I sleep on my left side so much it has actually caused me to have left shoulder and arm pain along with numbness and tingling in the fingers where the weight is compressing nerves in my shoulders from laying on my left. I wonder if there is anyone else whose palpitations are relieved by laying on your left side and is more aggravated by laying on the right side.

It is always worse on you left side because gravity pulls your heart closer to the left chest wall.  This is true for everyone.

The first step would be to check a holter and see if you are having new rhythm issues.  If there is change in rhythm, than the problem is not arrhythmia.  Sleep problems are usually not arrhythmias, but they can be.  They are almost always related to anxiety and the reason they are worse at night is because you are still and it is easier to feel your heart beats when you are still, especially on your left side.

If it is congestion that improves when you sit up, returns when you  lay down, and is better when you sleep on several pillows, this is worth talking to your doctor about because it might suggest that your heart is not pumping as well as it should.

I hope this helps.  Thanks for posting.
