metroprolol

Hi.
I just got put on metroprolol 25mg er for my PVCs and PACs which were benign but ruining my life so my Dr put me on this drug
My question is. Is this drug dangerous? I read an article online about parents talking about their kids being on it and dying shortly after from their hearts stopping (they were all around my age 19)

So I was just wondering if I should be worried about taking this drug thanks!

In my opinion if you've just taken one dose you would be fine stopping it, BUT you should go by your doctor's advice.  I had some trouble when I first started beta blockers (and they really are benign as far as heart drugs go) and I was able to tolerate them better by taking half a dose or even 1/4 of a dose and keeping an eye on my blood pressure.  If it was down or my heart rate too low, I delayed the next dose.  You might want to consider giving it a chance, it might be a missed opportunity to help your condition.  I have taken beta blockers for 10 years and am still here. BTW, I did better on Atenolol, my cardio says it does not pass the blood-brain barrier.  Also, stay hydrated, it will keep your bp up if that is a problem.  Good luck.

I'm on an extended release dose.
Can I stop cold turkey after just one dose? I don't like the way it made my heart beat very slow and hard. I called my doctor and I'm still waiting for him to get back to me
I read on a metorprolol support forum a lot of people stating their loved ones dies just weeks after being put on this drug that were otherwise healthy

I want to stop taking it but I read u have to wean yourself off... my question is after just one dose can I stop cold turkey?

I think of Metoprolol as the Tic-Tac of beta blockers.  Both Metoprolol Succinate (which you're on) and Metoprolol Tartrate (which I'm on) are easily tolerated by most people.  A common side effect is the slowing of pulse, and a lowering of blood pressure.  You may have to take a few weeks for your body to be accustomed to the medicine, and you may feel a bit washed out.  25mg is a very low dose.  I'm on 75mg, and have been as high as 200mg.  Dosages can be as high as 400mg per day.  Suggestion: If you don't have insurance and need to pay for this out of pocket, Metoprolol Tartrate is literally pennies per dose.  The only difference is it's not time release and must be taken twice a day.
