ventricular trigeminy at 25

my name is sara i was just told by my doctor TODAY that i have ventricular trigeminy. I am 25 years old and i am kinda scared about it...I've been having symptomatic episodes for about 5 days now and i have felt horrible ever since it has started ....i went to the er and nothing showed on the monitor...but was put on a holter monitor and there it showed trigeminy. when i feel them its like my heart is pounding in my throat and i get really short of breath. and it happens any time of the day when i sand up or do any type of movement...it's really scary. Now could this send me into VF or VT? and is it normal for a 25 y/o to have this?

hi,
I noticed this problem trigeminy two months back .I was a heavy drinker of tea and coffee and am stressed easily. It was detected in the holter test and not in ecg. However my echo is normal. Then I got Cardiac CT angiography done which is also normal.Th frequency of ectopics seems to have increased.
So doc has recommended further tests to check the electric system of the heart.

Hi, If you would like to rule out any structural problems, ask you your doctor for an ultra sound of the heart. This is called and  Echocardiogram (Echo). This will tell you more than all the other tests combined.

you may want to ask about a 30day monitor right up front since they didn't find it in the ER - it's a pain I hear, but will show anything going on in that time frame :)

when i first started to feel it, it was about a month ago one time in a 24 hr period, then the next day it was all day long whenever i would move at all like standing up or walking arround anything would trigger it, then it went away and i just forgot about it. then a month later i actually changed my diet and hadn't drank caffine the whole day and it started and got progressively worse all night, then the next morning i took myself to the ER there it stopped and they didnt catch anything on the monitor...but as soon as i left it started right back up again, next day got the holter monitor and i have been feeling then ever since not as bad as the first day but anytime my heart rate raises i can feel it. it feels like my heart is beating in my throat, and it's like pounding really heard, SOB and sometimes get light headed and headaches everyday. it is VERY noticeable every time it happens. but i set up a cardiologist appt for the 27th hopefully it's not too serious...thanks for the comments guys!

I would get all of my test results and make notes to things you have questions about and ask your doctor.

Did they say you were having trigeminy the entire day 24/7? or just you were in trigeminy during their testing? You may benefit from an echocardiogram and a stress treadmill test if you are 24/7 - but then again, it may correct itself and go out of it as quickly as it came.

what symptoms are you having other than feeling them and SOB?

if you have nothing structurally wrong with your heart, which will show on an echo & stress test along with testing, then it may be environmental for the trig episodes - look at your lifestyle - caffeine, stress, bloodwork, etc and see if you can find a trigger

we're not doctors here just patients who suffer with these dreaded arrythmia's and know how you feel :)

Hi! I am 27 and I get ventricular bigeminy and around 4000 Premature Ventricular Beats a day. I also get several runs of 3 PVCs in a row most days which is considered VT and I am okay! The doctor told me not to worry about it! I should say that my bigeminy is not constant though, If yours is constant, you may consider further treatment.

With no structural heart problems, heart disease, or any other form of cardio disease, statistically the chance of sudden VF or VT is about the same as someone with Ventricular arrhythmias.  Bigeminy and trigeminy can be considered a benign heart rhythm in a healthy person like yourself.  However, multiple ectopic beats are statistically shown to produce PVC induced Cardiomyopathy. Aslo, when you have frequent PVC's it does make your heart a less efficient pumping machine.  This in turn makes your heart have to work harder to circulate oxygen rich blood unlike someone without a ventricular arrhythmia. However, your prognoses as far as your heart going into some other type of more serious arrhythmia is very low risk, similar to someone without arrhythmias.  So all in all you are doing just fine.  It really depends on the case, focal point of your ectopic beats, and how they effect your life.  Who knows maybe your a candidate for an EP study.  Only a doctor can give you advice about that.  I know I have anywhere from 5k to 15k PVC's a day and the doctor said it is possible for me to have an EP study but not necessary.  So i did not get one done.  However, if you have trigeminy you are throwing well over 40k a day which must not be any fun!  So maybe you might want to be medicated or seek other treatment.
