Sorry for my mistake and good to read there was no breakdown of the ICD.
Looking back at the thread I see you said, in part: "i had a break down last nite about my icd but " and I didn't pay attention to the "about" part. In any case good to learn I misunderstood.

I do not wear an ICD, but I have read many posts. While I recall the shock being described variously some have been more on the "Unpleasant" side than on the "Painful" side, as is the case in the post Tom refers to I offer this only to argue there may be a wide variation of discomfort, but it seems for sure discomfort. I have a neighbor in his 80s who wears a pacemaker/ICD combined I think. I haven't explored that in detail but I know I have asked him how well the implant works and he was satisfied... and didn't mention any debilitating shocks. Fact may be he hasn't been shocked, I'll try to remember to ask the next time we get together.
This from forum member Pamz on a question I ask regarding her ICD. You can find the entire thread on the "Sudden Cardiac Death" topic now on the second page of the forum.
"..........As for the icd firing, no warning whatsoever. Just bam, feels like someone walked up behind you and hit you in the middle of the back as hard as they could. I was mowing and it knocked me forward and I pushed the mower so hard I mowed down one of my small trees. Each time it fired a little harder and I was trying to get to my house (no phone on me) and I hit the ground hard enough that I bruised my hands, wrist and knees. My son's a bit stronger, doesn't always knock him down and good thing, he's usually jogging on pavement. ."
