Yep, there is a place to learn the acronyms (like a cheat sheet....hahaha)
Go to the top of your screen and click on Health Pages. You'll find a link for Common Heart Acronyms
Test on Friday : )
Thanks for the information. Is there a glossary somewhere on this site to help with all the acronyms? I've heard of this syndrome, just didn't remember the acronym.
Lisaanne1983,
Pacemakers are usually used for patients with bradycardia.
Among other things, ICDs can be used to control the heart rate when someone has an arrythmia that could be dangeous.
I found a great source for information on POTS!! Cleveland Clinic is hosting a live Web Chat on June 17th on the subject of POTS. Thought you might like to check it out. http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/chatreg/chatpromo2_Jaeger.asp
AnxiousMama,
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is defined by excessive heart rate increments upon upright posture. Here's a great website to explain more:

I don't know what you mean by "the pots," and I can't answer your question about what's suitable for you. Have you spoken to a cardiologist or electrophysiologist? I can tell you that I have an ICD for ventricular tachycardia and the way an ICD works is that it can cardiovert your heart out of a dangerous arrhthmia or defibrillate your heart if needed; many ICDs also function as pacemakers as well. If you are concerned that you may go into cardiac arrest, then you should contact a heart specialist to discuss the option of an ICD.
