Are Malaria Pills with Hep B? (malarone, doxycycline)

Does anyone have experience on malaria prevention for Hepatitis B patients?  I want to go on a safari in East Africa, but I'm concerned about how anti-malarial pills such as Malarone and Doxy interact with the Hepatitis B virus.  I have chronic Hep B and my levels are high enough that I've been prescribed Viread.  Malarone and Doxy seem to be related to causing some sort of liver damage... so I'm trying to decide if I should just skip the meds and rely on prevention like bug sprays instead?  One issue is the popular bug spray DEET also seems toxic to the liver, but  Picaridin or Permethrin seem like less toxic alternatives.  So I'm thinking of going with those.  Any thoughts?

what i meant those with malaria should use artesunate instead of chlorquine or a mix of the two drugs so they may attack both malaria and hbsag.but this is in vitro only so everything needs to be confirmed in vivo

no, do not get malaria, it attacks liver too.this is crazy you may use artesunate and see if it lowers hbsag no need to get malaria.do check liver function while you use antimalaria drugs they all have some liver toxicity although very mild

So.... perhaps I should try to get myself infected with malaria, which will get me hospitalized so that I'm treated with artesunate, thereby possibly seroconverting?  Hmm.  Definitely something to keep in mind.

Effect of artemisinin/artesunate as inhibitors of hepatitis B virus production in an "in vitro" replicative system.

since artesunate is also the most potent malaria drug it is best to use this one, please let us know if you can do also hbsag quantity in iu/ml test while on artesunate

some years ago a doctor cronic carrier of hbv wrote me an email and he also methioned that his mother cleared hbv after malaria treatment after a lifetime of cronic carrier, so malaria drug may have an hbv effec too and that would be good to try
