Ciprofloxacin and HBV

Dear Doctor, I have cronic Hep B, I was diagnosed 2 years ago and was told I have very low levels of the virus in my blood counts, this has remained un changed while I have had regular tests, scans show no adverse scarring or damage to the liver. It believed I contracted this as a young child, through my parents.
I have been put on a course of  ciprofloxacin for a csyt post vacectomy.

Is this medication safe for me to take with HBV? i'm on my second day of the cip and feeling a little tired with lower back pain! Should I stop taking the cipro?

'I am unfortunatly not very awear of how I should look after my health with HBV.....'

These are my humble opinions:

Monitor your disease status with the help of a good hepatologist and live a healthy life style with moderate exercise and a healthy diet consisting of lean proteins and lots of fresh veggies and fruits.  You can choose to take some supplements, but let your liver doctor know about them.

I like to educate myself about hepatitis b.  It helps me find a good liver doctor and take control of my own health.  If you don't like your current doctor, try to find a better one.  But when you know nothing about hep b, you won't know what to look for in a doctor.

If a doctor other than your liver doctor prescribes a medicine, remind him/her of your HBV status and ask whether that drug is liver friendly.  Let your liver specialist know about any drugs and supplements you are taking.

check all links about vitamins and antioxidants in the forum, hepatitis technologies looks like the highest quality with back up studies

as to immune function vitamin d3 (5000iu or more according to serum levels, optimum 60-90ng/ml), vit c (only liposomal type) and E (only natural vitamin e, not chemical one) are the most important

Thankyou for your links, I am unfortunatly not very awear of how I should look after my health with HBV, my specialist doctor isn't very helpful with my condition, he just takes blood every 6 months, mumbles a few words and so the cycle goes. I am always very cautious to take medication, as I know my liver is not in its top condition. The doctors just priscribe drugs and very rerely, look at your condtion, past health issues ect..

Ciprofloxacin has been linked to rare but occasionally severe and even fatal cases of acute liver injury.....

i m not a doctor but this is not assuring, our doctor always used agumentin, check with your doctor if that is suitable for your problem.

try to keep vit d3 and vit c at optimum levels to boost immune system and avoid possible infections

Here's an article about cipro and livertox.

http://livertox.nih.gov/Ciprofloxacin.htm

You really should ask your hepatologist (assuming you have a competent one) about this.  For an hbver, every drug and supplement you are taking should be ok'ed by your liver doctor.
