So much anticipation here which ultimately goes in dismay. By 2014 I was expecting something in next few years but all wait seem to go in vane. Posts of people here from 2005 can be seen expecting for a cure. Alas it's 12years of their wait. This wait is breaking down our faith. It's very hard to say if any cure will ever come. Sorry for the hard words but disappointment is supervening.

Clearly you're not in touch with the recent milestones in the pathway for hbv cure. The fact that replicor has demonstrated the immunosuppressive effects of HBsAG and then established functional control in the vast majority of patients by driving down HbsAg levels, shows its only a matter of a short time that newer drugs that exploit this finding maximally will eventually yield a functional control for CHB.
I agree with both of you. Also of note is nivolumab and other pd-1 inhibitors, which probably do consistently cure the disease, but unfortunately are quite toxic and hence only used for cancer patients.
I am very well aquainted to replicor and also know that it's drugs are in phase2 which is ongoing and incomplete yet. It will still take a very long time for them to reach us after phase 3 completion. Approx 7-10years I guess that too with ambiguity.
I have looked into the development history for all drugs made for hbv. The average time it took them from discovery to hit the market was 7-8years. Given that many drugs are in phase 2, it's logical to think that in 4 years, atleast a couple of them would be out.
@Landloper, research into developing checkpoint inhibitors that are safer and more tailored towards hepatitis B is being done. So we are covered on that front too.

I am expecting CURE by 2020.because recently Arbutus delivery plat form is huge success (LNP) in Phase 3 of Anylam drug and ARB-1467 cohort 4 also success.

Spring Bank's SB-9200 is also promising. They are estimating phase 3 will start in 1H 2019.

I don't think a cure is likely to reach the market by 2020. However , I'm positive that drugs/combination  regimens that cure hep B would enter clinical trials by 2020.
What if a given company discovers certian drug that could completely cure hepB all of a sudden, as most scientific discoveries are done by some accident? Is that also going to take a very lengthy process to reach the market?
I don't think that a cure for HBV would be found by a "sudden accident" as you put it. This is because no one drug can cure hep B as is witnessed in the past. Instead there will be a gradual build up towards a cure as more drugs with different complementary modes of action enter clinical trials/market and experiments will be conducted with various combinations to see which ultimate combination suffices for a cure.
Although I must add that a Crispr based drug could emerge as a "sudden" cure for CHB negating the need for a combinational therapy. But even in that case, clinical trials may take many years since Crispr is a totally new and potentially dangerous class of therapy (could have life threatening off target effects on human DNA) hence a longer follow up would be needed on cured individuals in these trials to see if the drug is indeed safe.
There's one such company that's targeting HBV through a Crispr based drug and will enter clinical trials in 2019. I hope they succeed!

Replicor drugs donot produce cures, rather induce a type of "occult" hbv infection! Nevertheless, their drugs may improve clinical outcomes.
I bet the first true functional or complete cure would be developed by Arbutus and will be available latest by 2030.
