Hepatitis B

Good day to all!!

I was diagnosed with a Hepatitis B virus last May 2009 when I went for general check-up. The doctor told me that I am already a chronic carrier and I was surprised coz I really dont know where or when it came from.

I go ahead to see a specialist and again do a Hepatitis exam on my blood. I was negative for Hep A and C but positive for Hep B. Heres my result:

Hepatitis B e Antigen   0.34 (non-reactive)
Hepatitis B surface Antigen  9,9191 IU/ml (reactive)
total IgM Antibody to Hepatitis B core Antigen  0.08 (non-reactive)
total Antibody to Hepatitis B Core Antigen  9.89 (reactive)
Antibody to Hepatitis Be Antigen 0.06 (reactive)
Antibody to Hepatitis B Surface Antigen  0.35 mIU/mL (non-reactive)

SGPT/ALT  74
Albumin  4.40

My liver ultrasound result is normal. My doctor said we will have another test in 3-6 months due time to see if I recover from this Hep B. I havent had a DNA test though.

This condition that I have really affects my life now. I tend to think about it and get mad at myself for being stupid that I dont even know where I get it from. Most importantly I am not the cheerful person that I used to be since I discover that I have Hep B. I have my wife supporting me on this and we are lucky enough that she is negative for any Hepatitis. We just had our new born daughter last June 26 and for my family to be safe, we went ahead and get them vaccinated.

Now that I have my family, I have responsibilities specially for my daughter. I am really pressured to be healthy again and hoping that my condition doesn't get worse.

I need some advise from you guys on ways how to deal with this condition. Thank you so much in advance..

hi gem, having jundice on your eyes and skin is natural for the HBsag positive, it is one of the symptoms of having a hepB. i know what you feel, i totally understand it. just keep healthy avoid meat, oily, fatty foods and NEVER drink alcohol or smoke as it worsen your health condition. exercise and go to sleep is also good and can help improve it.bless you!!!may we overcome this trial that we have.

Don't know which country you live in. Usually it is ordered by  doctor.

This test finds out the amount of virus in your body. Since you are eAb positive and eAg negative, if the load is > 2000 IU/ml or 10000 copies/ml, doctor may prescribe medicines to get the count down.

Most likely you have this infection as a child. Since you are eAg negative, there is low level replication.

Get your viral load tested right away. Depending on the count, your doctor will prescribe medicine.

Like you many (probably millions) don't know how they are infected. Atleast you now know about and taking preventive measures... There are excellent treatment options !!!

My doctor did not put me in any medication. I stopped drinking and never smoke before.

I am just 26 yrs old and we are just starting a family but this problem really hurt me. I know someday I will have to get some medication for this and it would be really tough for us as we dont earn much.

I really feel for you.  My husband has been diagnosed with chronic Hepatitis B four years ago.  He has been undergoing a combination with two Hep B drugs and it can get very expensive.  Did your doctor put you on medication?  There are a couple of Hepa B drugs out there (my husband is on BOTH drugs) and maybe one or both could be good for you.

Just don't think too much about it as it can add to your stress.  Just remember to stop drinking (if you do) and stop smoking (if you do).  Also, a  healthy diet would be beneficial for you.
