Fibroscans in mid range (F1, F2) are not as accurate. Having eaten prior can change results. Being overweight can also influence accuracy of results. Fibroscan is known to be most accurate at diagnosing either no damage F0 or F4 cirrhosis.
I can understand how that would be concerning not sure why they would have even performed the test so soon after your first.
I would recommend ask your liver specialist this question. He is a medical professional and knows your specific medical circumstances.
You have hepatitis B you need treatment before damage can occur. Or before any additional damage can occur. Period.
Preventing a fire does no good once the building is on fire.
As I said the Fibroscan isn’t as accurate in mid range and more accurate at zero damage and F4 which is the definition of cirrhosis.
If you want a more accurate test you could undergo a needle liver biopsy. That is where the slide a largish needle into your side between your ribs and insert the needle into your liver to remove a sample to check under a microscope. The biopsy has it’s own limitations but has been considered the gold standard for determining liver damage.
I had four liver biopsies over the years I was infected with hep c. This was before there was such a thing as a Fibroscan test.
My liver biopsy results went from F1 to five years later F2 then in five more years F3 then finally on my fourth liver biopsy I was diagnosed as F4 fibrosis and told I have liver cirrhosis.
Trust me you don’t want to go down that road
Get treated.
Look I understand your nervous about taking treatment but try to trust your doctor and follow their advice. If your not comfortable with your current doctor get a second opinion from a different doctor knowledgeable in hepatitis b, it’s treatment, and liver disease.
But to me it’s worse to do nothing than treat your medical situation. The risk of not treating is worse then the much smaller risks of treating that is why these medicines were developed to help people and prevent them developing future more dire complications from the hepatitis c virus.
Do you have a good friend or family member as well as your doctor who can help you make this important decision about your future health and medical care? That is who you really need to be asking. We can’t make your decision to treat for you.
did you do anything special between these 2 fibroscan tests ? like stop drinking alcohol, diet, sport etc ?
