High Level of AST,ALT & GGT

Hi all,

I just got the lab test came back for my Life Insurance application and they rejected my application due to high level of ALT (60),AST(68) & GGT(198). Also, my triglycerides level is 148. My cholesterol/HDL ratio is 5.71 and my LDL/HDL Ratio is 3.96.

I am a 152lbs,5.5", 53 yrs old Asian with a straight sex life style. Never do drugs/needles. No Smoke, Casual drinker at family get together (mostly 1 or 2 beers/red wine max). Take moderate Vitamine Supplements (E, C & Fish oil etc.). Excercise & playing sports (some competitive, some recreational). I did not experience any obvious systoms and/or problems with my health in generally. Just some regular seasonal allergies.

Can some one tell me what are those numbers mean? Would that number put me in a Hep A, B, C or E category?
Should I go to a family/internal medicine doc or a live specialist for second opinion?
I was told so many times from others with Hep B that it's just the 'asian' thingie, almost everyone got it and it did not kill you nor do you have problem with it if you do no drugs, heavily drinking or being gay. I 'd like to hear what some of asian docs have to say on this.
I was also told (by reading some medical articles) that the numbers are often mislead on diagnosis of Hep A,B,C etc. due to differences between East & West population. Is there any take on this? Ayy further readings that you can send me to?
What is your bottom line recommendation? Take the HDV??? test? Go see a specialist for second opinion? Take some drugs (what kind?)to bring the level down? or I have 5 weeks to live...go spend all of the money..:-)?

Thanks

Well, what could they do?  Its up to the patient to make the appointments.

You need a full HBV profile done now.  Not much to do until it comes back.

I did not remember what they did. Just blood test nothing else and yes I was test positive and I did not believe all those years no one (docs & check up) did say anything about Hep until then. I am now 53.

How did your Hep B test come out. That is not clear from your post. Were you positive or negative for it?  Did they test surface antigen or just surface antibody?

how did ALT,AST & GGT level get elevated?

--Hep B is not the only cause.

Also, I don't hear much about GGT level? Is GGT not related to Liver/Hep issue?

--Not sure.

If you had test showing Hep B before, you should do a liver panel to know your current status.

Over 10 years ago, I did a  complete check-up and the doc said I was tested for  Hep B. Since then, I did not feel a thing nor having any symtoms similar to what I have been reading about Hep B.

So elevated ALT,AST & GGT level does not have anything to do with 'Hep'? It is ANOTHER issue besides Hep?

Can some one tell me what are those numbers mean?

--You have slightly elevated ALT and AST.

Would that number put me in a Hep A, B, C or E category?

--No.

Should I go to a family/internal medicine doc or a live specialist for second opinion?

--Wouldn't hurt to have a liver panel done to put your mind at peace.

I was told so many times from others with Hep B that it's just the 'asian' thingie, almost everyone got it and it did not kill you nor do you have problem with it if you do no drugs, heavily drinking or being gay. I 'd like to hear what some of asian docs have to say on this.

--This hearsay is wrong.

I was also told (by reading some medical articles) that the numbers are often mislead on diagnosis of Hep A,B,C etc. due to differences between East & West population. Is there any take on this? Ayy further readings that you can send me to?

What is your bottom line recommendation?

--Calm down.  You are probably free of Hep A B C.

Take the HDV??? test? Go see a specialist for second opinion? Take some drugs (what kind?)to bring the level down? or I have 5 weeks to live...go spend all of the money..:-)?

--Wait for your liver panel results.  Till then, don't worry.
